Would it make more sense to move to PA if I can? I would then probably be paying city taxes as well. Anyone who has had this situation or knows of it please help! The commute is not an issue on either one, I just would like to know what would make the most sense

Living in PA would make life ALOT easier. I've done what you did and it was rather complicaed. I can't remember the specifics, but living in the same state you work makes taxes easier.

If you move to PA & you pay real estate taxes on your home or rent you lose the credit/rebate available in NJ. In PA you don't qualify for a real estate/rent rebate until you are a senior citizen (or disabled or widowed).

If you tell your employer they should hold the appropriate state tax. Unless you move on Jan. 1st, the first year you will have to do 2 returns (part year resident on each).

Other than that, no big deal.

If for some reason your employer keeps holding NJ tax when you live in PA, file your NJ return in time to have the refund before April 15th when you will have to pay PA.
