I don't think it's about which is better, more than it's about what shoots best and most accurate out of your particular rifle. Different rifles will shoot differently, with each and every factory ammunition you may try. I have used both extensively and the results are totally depend ant on the guns I've used. I have a Remington 700 in 30-06 (Unaltered-Out of the box) that works best with the Winchester Supreme ammunition 150 grain ballistic tip..On the other hand I have another Remington 700 Custom Long Range HB Rifle that the Federal Premium is most accurate..Different rifles=different results

i am going thru this exact ammo change right now.the winchester ballistic tip are very good. they will reek havoc on any animal hit .the only prob i had was not being cinsistantly accurate.i have a leupold 3.5-10x50 leupold.i change to federal and was very suprised. the federal has been much mor accurate.with the winchester i would be all over the orange part of the target.
with the federal i have a group about the size of a baseball at 100yds..
i started with hornady ammo.for people i had constanlt probs. it was very unaccurate. i had numerous misfiresn and many that were overloaded.i called hornady and they stated they do not even load their on ammo.they have a compant that has the name on the hull, frontier.they are a very good company but they arealso on the bottom ratings with rifle ammo.----retired texas deputy sheriff----

I myself like the winchester brand supreme for deer hunting. It has shot well out of my rifle every time I use it. I however have another rifle that is chambered in 30-06 that likes match loads from federal. That said I would buy two boxes of each and head to the range and print a few rounds on paper. After which I would see what shot how and then determine if one shots 1 MOA and the other shoots 2.25 MOA out of your rifle. I would go with the one producing 1 MOA groups of 3. I only say this because a head on shot on a whitetail may only allow a 1inch or 1.5 inches or error room and the round producing 1 inch or MOA groups is more the likely going to out perform the round producing 2.25 MOA groups.

Buy a box of each, shoot three groups from each box, compare results. It's all a matter of what YOUR particular rifle shoots best, so you have to get some time in on the range to find out.
For example, my two old Springfield '03s shoot best with two different loads (180 grains both, Federal for one, Win for the other). All depends on the particular rifle, so have fun shooting!

It's really a matter of preference, and I go with Federal... 165 grain or 180 grain.

They are all good, however as long as you put them in the right spot at the right time.* Shot placement as always is the key factor.** I prefer the 180 grain boat tail match myself in the 30-06 caliber in my Remington Model 721 with a 3 X9 scope.**

I have used Federal's higher end offerings for decades and never been disappointed. Now, understand that's just my preference and habit, nothing at all wrong with Winchester that I know.
(This is the classic "Ford or Chevy" type question.......is there really a right answer and what about Dodge?)

I don't know, but here are the two web sites where you can input the type of bullet you have and it will tell you the ballistics of the bullet. It tells you how much the bullet falls at 200 yards out, etc.

Man I hate to do it, but I gotta agree with the above guy who said Hornady. They do outperform either federal or winchester and they do cost less!
