I've had long discussions with very well educated "men of the cloth" both catholic and noncatholic about the subject of literal interpretation of the bible. I find it interesting that the those at the top in the various organized christian religions believe the earth is 6 billion years old, that the bible is allegorical. Many devout priests and pastors will tell you that their congregations and flocks and parishes or what ever --simply would falter in their faith if these questions were discussed. Does it make you mad to know that many in the religious community don't think you are intellectually capable of assimilating those ideas and remaining faithful?

The Pharisees were the most educated, intellectual, enlightened Hebrews of their day and they accused Jesus as a blasphemer and facilitated His death.

Same as it ever was.

Here is what the scripture teaches. This passage is straightforward so interpret it strictly....from 1 Corinthians 1.

"For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence."

Interesting isn't it that the wise, the mighty, and the noble run the show in Christianity. But according to the Scripture, not many are really called and that is why they teach so much baloney. They don't know the Lord...they only know about Him.

And yes they tend to glorify themselves in their knowledge. I mean, if the truth convicts them there is no choice but to water it down...right.

Meanwhile Jesus still says the same thing as he said so many years ago...

I didn't come for the righteous...what need have they of me...I came for sinners.

Your assumption is off base. I don't know where you got this idea that the leaders of Christianity are liberal (theologically), but it's incorrect. Of course there are some who will tilt that way, but the vast majority does not. Also I have never been to a church where discussion of the "hard" issues has been discouraged, and I would never go to such a church. You need to remove from you mind this stereotype of the mindless Christian. You assume that these ideas are intellectually untenable and that colors your perception of the church.

It bothers me that some of these churches which have sprung up from no where think they can interpret the Bible how they please. In the mainstream churches (Orthodox,Catholic, Anglican...)the bible has been studied for hundreds of years by bishops of the Church. The people of these churches have a strong faith and understanding of Christianity.

No where is the age of the earth in the Bible told. This is a fallacy. A day to God is expressly told to be different. This does not make one iota of difference to my faith. If you have had long discussions with 'learned people' I am surprised that no one has learned this yet, including you.

The question is not how old the rocks are, the question is how old is human life, and the record show not very old. the fossils are just not there.
