I just recently converted to Jediism...and already have a Master Jedi set up to teach my young Padwans the ways of the Force.

I'm in the process of converting my home into a Jedi Temple.

My question is...how do I go about requesting a tax exempt status, by the government, on my home, since it is now considered a place of worship?

All serious answers would be appreciated. If you're answers, in any way, insult the Order of the Jedi, please don't bother posting one.

Thanks....:)

For $10.00 you can get a Ph.D. in Theology from the Universal Life Church in California. If you have regular services for your religion--follow guidelines set up by the IRS for a religion--you are allowed to acheive tax exempt status.
The Universal Life Church does not like the tax exempt status of religions. It's goal is to make everyone into a church so that everyone in the country can take the tax exempt status. According to these goals--Congress would have to remove the tax exempt status from all religions or the country would have no money. May the Force be with you. And remember as you train--Do or not do--there is no try.

As far as I know, the United States Government does not recognize fictional, ancient religions as having tax exempt status. Please, for your sake, be careful about requesting a tax exempt status for your house, business, and self, because Tax Evasion is a very real crime, pubishable by prison time. Remember, this is what they eventually put Al Capone away for.

Also, I believe that by posting this question on a freely available public forum such as Yahoo! Answers, you are demonstrating "mens rea", or more plainly, the specific intent to violate an actually known legal duty. This is step one of Tax Evasion. Tread lightly.

I would assume that you write a letter to the government requesting that they make you tax exempt. Be sure to include a brochure or booklet about Jediism, just so they know how serious you are.

You would first have to get the government to recognize your new found religion as a legitimate one. I know that Jediism is recognized by governments on far away worlds, but this government has not yet reached that level of sophistication. I wish you luck in your quest.

If you're in the UK, I think that's the only place where it's a recognized religion.
