In regards to one of the answers, I'm not looking to get high off it. I'm simply wanting to know whether I should take it at night or in the morning. If it is an upper, then obviously morning would be better, for I'd like to be alert and not groggy. If it's a downer, then taking it at night would be better.

Also, in regards to another who answered, I did Google it (or rather, I queried it on Yahoo!), and found nothing. That's why I posted the question here.

neither...it is an SSRI..it can lift a person from depression, while still calming them if they have panic disorders...it increases the seratonin in the brain...it's not it the same class as either amphetamines nor benzodiazapines (uppers or downers)

My wife was on that. when I had a Migrain headache I went to take what I thought was some leftover ibruprophin from a sprained ankle. I couln't see to good cuz it was all blurred but it said take 3. So it did and I was MESSED UP for a bout 24 hours. it was like I was moving in a strobe light. I would move then see my hands catch up. I wouldn't do that again. I Think its an upper???\

EFFEXOR XR is a prescription medicine used to treat Depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder (also called GAD), Social Anxiety Disorder (also called SAD), and Panic Disorder (also called PD) in adults.
It falls under the category of "Suicidality and Antidepressant Drugs." Kinda like Xanax I believe.

Self experience: they are a mood stabilizer for people who are so depressed that you cannot get out of bed or are crying uncontrollably from unknown fear, or having anxiety attacks, it helps those symptoms. They do not make you hyper, and they usually do not effect people to make them feel down unless it would be so they can rest better. It is a drug to help you cope, when you cannot and are depressed. So if this question is for wanting to abuse it so you will be high or down, forget it.

Its neither, its an anti-depressant. It neither speeds you up (upper) nor slows you down (downer). It just alters the feel-good chemicals in the brain to allow your mood to become more stable.

Basically if those are the terms you want to use, its an upper. But its actually an antidepressant. It will improve your mood. It wouldn't have a large anti anxiety component as a antidepressant, I don't think. I took it for a while and never considered it to be a downer. Why don't you google it though?

It is an antidepressant. I know because I took it for two years.
It does not get you high up or down it helps with the brain waves for people who are depressed.
