I favor HD. It's easier to find stuff.
Lowes is set up to cater to women. I'm not a sexist. My daughter told me this the first time she walked into Lowes.
Help is about the same in both in my area, poor to none.

For decorating and finishing items its Lowe's, for construction materials and hard to find things Home Depot, but you did not ask about the Home Depot Expo, which is a step above both of those, but Lowe's still is better for most of those decorating and finishing items unless you want hi end

I despise both places; however, after a recent experience with Home Depot--there is a reason why they were recently rated as a top 10 for lack of customer service--I choose Lowe's.

in the case of my home town we have found Lowe's prices to be the same or a very little less. they both sell most of the same items. we have found customer service to be much better at home depot. for the few cents more we prefer Home Depot. my wife and i have remodeled three homes so we spend some time at both.
when a question ask for an opinion and people give their opinion how can you give them a thumb up or down?

I really depends on the store. Here on the east side of town it is Lowe's. West side it is Home Depot. Can't say why.....manager? Luck of the draw? Prices are the same, materials are about the same quality...you'll find something you like better at one store, but at the other you'll find another item. Shop both until you decide. One warning, don't use either's home remodeling departments. Independent research finds they are much slower than private contractors and the unhappiness is greater. Same with going with somebody like Sears......and I'll vouch for that.

I have a problem with Home Depot's seeming lack of integrity by allowing installation subcontractors to overcharge customers for shoddy work. Nothing was done for years regarding customer's complaints until they were exposed by a T.V. reporter. Home Depot is now in a damage control mode attempting to minimize the negative publicity.

We go to both but I prefer Loews. The newer stores are less warehouse looking than Home Depot so from a merchandising concept I like to shop Loews. But price and product are close to the same.

I prefer The Home Depot. Their products & services are very similar to Lowes, but HD does a lot of charitable donations & volunteer work in the communities that I find admirable. For example, I am working on a "Making It Home" renovation project with the Big Brother Big Sisters organization, and HD is donating materials to us. The also did a lot of cleaning & repairs in one of the big city parks in an underpriviledged neighborhood last year.

Lowe's employees have, in recent years, surpassed those of Home Depot in terms of overall knowledge and understanding of the productst they sell. It's also easier to find someone to help you when you're in Lowe's.
