What I remember most about it was that when they said "Let us offer each other the sign of peace" - husband and wife could kiss. I remember one couple who kissed a little too long for my mother's taste - and her talking crap about them on the way home from mass.

Vatican II was begun by John XXIII and finished by Paul VI. John XXIII wanted to open the windows and let in a "little fresh air" into the church. When he did this, he initiated some of the biggest changes in the church in many, many years.

Vatican II occurred over several years- 1963-66 or so.
I remember some of the changes- Latin was no longer the language of the Mass. The 'native' language (in my case, English) became the language of the Mass. The altar was turned around so that it faced the congregation and the priest said the Mass IN FRONT of the congregation rather than with his back to the congregation.

I also recall that women were given a more active role in the church. Sisters (Nuns) moved out of their convents and into the community. Many had more administrative roles in their parishes.

I also remember the introduction of the "Folk Mass" - popular songs were introduced into the Mass in order to keep young people interested and coming to services.

I am including a link to the Vatican so you can what else changed as a result of the council.

Vatican II was a council held by the Catholic Church in order to update it's customs and regulations. And to place support in regards to it's theology. Vatican II opened the way for Holy Mass to be said in any given language instead of just Latin. It reaffirmed it's teachings and created a more 'easy to understand' Catholic faith.

It is the city that exists today built on the ruins of the original city dedicated to the god Mithra, which is virtually the same story as the Christ story only much older.

There was no such thing. It is a lie from Protestants to say that our dogma changed. It is something Jack Chic made up.
