Ok... So, I chopped fresh garlic the other day for the first time (I usually use that powdered or jarred garlic), and my hands reek! It's been a couple of days since I chopped it, and I can't get the smell off. I've washed my hands so much they are chapped, but that god foresaken smell is still on my hands. UGH!

Does anyone have any tips or tricks to get it off, besides soap? Soap doesn't seem to work, lol.

Rub your hands on something stainless steel, like a countertop or wide knife blade. They even sell little bars of it specifically to get stubborn smells off your hands. I'm including a link to a small write-up about this.

LOL I always use fresh garlic and have never had that happen. I only chop it for starting Italian sauce when sauteeing the onions and garlic before putting in the other ingredients. Otherwise I generally use a garlic press. I highly recommend you get a press/crusher. It's much less work with your hands when you use one. You just squeeze the garlic through the holes... no excessive chopping and handling. Make sure it's a good one.

Be sure you use a really good brand of soap. If it doesn't work try to find special hand cleaning liquids(you should find them in the pharmacy or a well stocked super market). If it still doesn't work, you can only wash your hands more or put deodorant on your hands. If none of this works, wait, the smell should be gone in a day or two.

Cut up a fresh lemon and rub the juice on your hands. Be careful if you have a small cut, b/c it will sting a little, but this is the best way to get the smell out, and it is natural

Cover it up with the smell of chopped onions.

Not really, try just waiting and washing your hands. When the smell eventually goes away (it can't stay forever..right?) simply avoid further chopping by buying a garlic clove smasher thingy...(forget the name, lol)

lemons and a little salt. As for the chapped hands, put on lots and lots and lots (till it seems almost nasty) of Vaseline tonight before bed. In the morning, they will be much better. That trick works on very chapped lips too.

Put your hands under running cold water and rub your fingers (or other smelly parts) with a stainless steel spoon. Use the spoon like soap and rub all over. Don't use soap. Really works.

Pour some fresh lemon over your fingers... and keep on rushing the lemon skin for a while, that will get rid of it, try not to expose your hands to sun, after this action...

Good luck!.

Rub your fingers on something made of stainless steel, like a large serving spoon. It works like a charm.
