Probably not since it's not his family. Doesn't hurt to ask though. Sorry about your friend. I hope she is O.K.

Unfortunately the military will probably not give your hubby time off to go. It depends on the command and what time he has on the books for leave. Since your friend is not a direct relative they don't consider this an emergency.
Hardship flights are pretty much a thing of the past. The odds are fairly low that they will assist in any way to get you back to the states.
I am sorry to hear about your friend and wish you luck.

If he has annual leave accrued and there are no pressing military duties to which he must attend, it is likely he will be granted leave. The military will not pay for either of you to fly home to be with her.
It seems to me that flying home should be your first priority and your husband can follow if/when he can get leave.
One possibility if you are able to travel together is that there might be space available (Space A travel) on a flight going to the US. Your husband can get information about Space A travel from the travel or transportation office. Space A is seldom convenient as you must get from where they land to where you want to go but it is a way to save airfare. Good luck!

Since she is not a relative, this does not fall under the conditions of emergency leave. As such they are not likely to pay for your airfare (although you could take a MAC flight). He might get time off if he has leave on the books and they can spare him at the moment.

i just came from overseas and had a similar situation happen while i was there......my husband was not authorized emergency leave.....i was able to fly Space A home, but since it was not a relative I was given the same priority as leisure travelers and got bumped off 4 flights before i got home then ended up having to buy a ticket back to japan after the funeral. our friends twin brother lost his wife while we were over there and he wasnt even authorized leave or a plane ticket for that.......only the active duty members immediate family (spouse, child, parent, sibling, stepparent, or stepsibling) or the spouses immediate family qualify you for emergency leave and a plane ride home. sorry about your friend i hope she makes it through.

Since she is not immediate family, your husband will not be granted emergency leave. If he has leave accumulated and his command approves, he could take regular leave but that is unlikely on such short notice. They will not pay to fly you home, and as it is not immediate family, you may not even be eligable to get a grant or loan from military aide. If you wish to go home, you will have to pay the cost yourself and go on your own.

Unless its actual physical family, such as Grandfather & Grandmother Mother, Father, Son or daughter, then there is no automatic granting of time off, for other's just outside the immediately family then leave must be applied for.
And no they wont pay for you to fly anywhere.

Sorry to hear about your friend I hope all goes well for her. I don't know if they will allow your husband to go unless he does have time on the books. The only way to find out anything for certain is for him to go to his C.O. Good luck, best wishes

I am afraid not, the military will(as a rule) only foot the bill if the person is a member of YOUR immediate family. Unless you can somehow show they were the equivelent of immediate family member............lol............My prayers are with you.

no. it is not a close relative. you can ask for a no interest loan from AER/NMCRS, but I am betting it will not be granted.. again, it is not a family member who was injured.
