Seeing poor people begging for food makes affluent Americans uncomfortable. Their whole days are sometimes ruined from the experience. What should we do to remove these eyesores from our cities?

I can't remember the name of the guy, but he suggested that we harvest the babies of the poor and feed them to the rich. I mean, this is the proper Christian response, right? These people obviously don't work hard. It makes me uncomfortable when families can't afford to send their kids to college.

I completely agree.

You should go on the O'Reilly factor and share your proposal.

The best way is to build up a high wall around his habitat where he lives in affluence. Mind, the wall will have to be increased in height every year because the poor people's population is ever growing. A day will come when the person will try to scale the height of the wall that he has made to avoid site of the poverty and fall down on his back to be helped by the poor.
Poverty is God-gifted and affluence is also God-gifted, so neither of them is to be eye sored. In the deeper sense, poverty brings closer to Him rather than affluence.

I would say part of your question is right, the part that says, "These people obviously don't work hard." the rest is tripe. The Christian response that worked quite well for 1960 some odd years of caring for the windowed, the orphans, while demanding that the man of the home work and provide for his family did quite well until the US government decided to replace dad with a check. now we have the highest poverty rate ever, the highest rate of unmarried parents, the highest rate of welfare, all in the name of "safety nets"
If you want to blame anyone blame the Democrats.

My God, you are so full of stereotypes!! A person being poor doesn't mean that he/she doesn't work hard. I work hard everyday but I also have moments that I don't know how ends will meet. Some of us have situations going on in our lives that you could never understand unless you live it. I chose to leave an abusive husband and raise my kids on my own. He does nothing for them and will not keep a job anymore to prevent me from being able to collect child support. He doesn't even talk to them because I refuse to go back into an abusive marriage. I struggle to raise my kids despite my very hard work and if I wasn't blessed enough to have help from my family when I have no other outlet, I would be one of those people that you speak of, although I work hard everyday. Any of us could find ourselves in the position that we have no place to turn and no one to turn to. Thank God that you're not in that position now.

Reaching out to the people that you refer to as "eyesores" and give them a place to have a balanced meal for their family would be a good start. Holding a clothing drive would help them to have desent clothes to wear to apply for better jobs. Having tutoring sessions for the children of these people that may not be capable of helping their children can help break the cycle of poverty.

The easiest thing you can do to help this situation is to take a moment to pray for these people when you see them. Ask God to make a way for them and their families. Ask Him to touch their hearts and guide them in the way in which He would want them to go. Pray that the needy are set free from all forms of spiritual bondage and ask Him to provide a way for the person to stand and to increase their desire to succeed. Instead of criticizing, help them, even if you only have a prayer for them.

Oh your pity is killing me. I worked hard all my life. Most of those poverty stricken bums out there are too lazy to take care of them selves. So they live from day to day pickings from the garbage and begging. Any one can better themselves with a little effort. People deserves the destiny they choose.
Good luck.

As Christians our first duty is to spread the GOOD NEWS then to feed and clothe the poor. Christians who spend millions to stop gay marriage and abortion are not doing the will of GOD.

That was Jonathon Swift. The title of the work is " A modest proposal" and it was satire.
Though some people did'nt see it that way.

The Religious Right (which of course is neither) is the first to whine about the welfare state.

Why is it that "godless liberals" are more compassionate to the lesser among us?

Everyone fast once a month and give the money that would be used to buy food to the poor. (there is a religion that does this by the way).

As long as there are spare bedrooms in our homes and homeless people on the streets, the work of Jesus must continue...
