In my defense, Fox News isn't the only site reporting on this issue. I've read several reports on it before today. He's just recently reappeared after disapearing for a couple of weeks.

There was a gentleman in Arizona that received a pension and health care from the VA fr over 25 years. That included a stint where he was in a VA nursing home. He died and was buried in a Veterans cemetery. He never served one day!
When you read stories about homeless vets, or vets who have been "forgotten by the system" ask yourself who checked their paperwork out. It sure wasn't the reporter who did it. I did a year as a VISTA volunteer dealing with the homeless and came across "homeless vets". Most were lying through their teeth! Their stories didn't check out as to unit, time, assignment, etc. Those who were "vets" had been thrown out of the service before completing boot camp.
The percentage of real veterans working for the VA, who have the capability of reading a DD-214 correctly has been going down steadily since the Carter administration. The law he proposed and got passed penalized any retired officer from accepting a job with the VA by taking 55% of his pension away in exchange for the position.
