The Bible says that the signs of the Second Coming will be:

False messiahs
Wars and rumours of wars
Nations rising against each other
Famine
Disease
Earthquakes

Correct me if I'm wrong, but all of those things have existed continuously from Jesus' death until now. Why do you think that (for example) the threat of war against Iran may signify the end of the world, but the Russo-Japanese war of 1905 didn't?

What's changed? Why now?

Israel becoming a nation: Bible reference explicitly linking it to the End Times please.

Anyway, Israel has been around for 60 years, and the Temple's never going to be rebuilt.

The ability to completely annihilate the planet is a new phenomena, nuclear weapons, hurricanes the size of countries, floods that span countries, multiple dictators causing mayhem on every continent, more sightings of UFOs and other unexplainable things, global communication, famines, earthquakes tsunamis, mass extinctions, incurable pandemics in nature and in labs ready to wipe out millions, global terrorism etc, this has never happened at this level and scale before.

If these were occasional things then OK but check the papers now and see how many freaky things are happening on a mass scale. Then look at local communities and see how children are having children despite knowing better, children killing children, gun and knife and drug violence, prostitution, slavery and trafficking, old people being dumped alone in nursing homes, people dying alone etc. The names of some of the countries in prophecy include russia, iraq, iran, how they interact now and in the future is what is significant . We are to watch and pray. When Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed there were warnings issued and only a handful of people escaped. Noah and family escaped after warning the population for over a hundred years, The eygptians had the ten plagues... those who payed attention escaped jewish and egyptian. So our job is to be paying attention to the signs and know that in a twinkling of an eye when people least expect it Jesus will come. It will happen soon, and the warnings are now spreading globally and soon all people will know the truth. When that happens which could be in a few years or even months.... the internet is helping in this, then it will happen.

They have existed from the time of Jesus (and before).

The Bible says that it will happen when we do not expect it, like a thief in the night. People will be living and doing as they have for thousands of years.

The latest that I can see the return of Jesus is 2030, which means that the rapture would accrue in 2013 (that is if our dating is correct, and the Bible also says that if God did not shorten those days no life would live. This could meant that it will happen before then).

The Bible also says "Knowledge will be increased."
The Bible also says "Mens hearts will fail them for taking care of the things that are coming upon the earth."
The Bible also says that the events will increase as a woman in travail or child birth. This means they will increase more frequently and become worse each time.
The Bible also says that Damascus, Syria, will become a heap of ruin.
And the Bible says many other things before the Great and Terrible Day of the Lord.
A great falling away is occurring and this is prophesied also.
The Bible also says that Israel will be surrounded by her enemies.
The Bible also says that Israel will become a cup of trembling.
The Bible also says that God will fight for His people Israel.
No one can deny the military miracles of Israel since 1948.
The spirit of the antichrist is everywhere. I didn't know this until I got on this forum.

The answer lies in the frequency and severity of the above listed. There have been more severe earthquakes in the last 100 years than has occurred in the last thousand all together. I believe the best indicator of our being in the last days is that the Bible tells us about the restoration of Israel and that "in the last days men's hearts will grow cold." We may have the same disasters as years ago, but the way people react to one another is not the same.

Israel had to be reestablished as a nation, for one.

Also, there had to be an Eastern army capable of fielding 200 million soldiers, who would be one of the nations converging on Israel.

There is also a verse saying that the world would be capable of destroying itself (not true until about 1970 with advanced nuclear weapons), but God will intervene.

I agree that those things have happened for many hundreds of years. But, some things have only happened recently. Israel becoming a nation (which happened in 1948) is supposed to be sign that it is nearing.

I believe the rebuilding of the Jewish temple at Jerusalem is the final event we will see happen before God puts an end to the evil in this world.

The bible says only God knows the exact date, but that we can witness these events to let us know it is near.

You are correct. They have existed probably sence before Jesus' death, but the Bible says after Israel becomes a nation and then you see all of these things happen at the same time ( not all at once, but one right after another), look up for your redemption is very close.
The key is Israel becoming a nation.

I hope this better explains things to you.
Have a blessed day.

You left out the increase in knowledge which is new due to the advent of computers, and people moving to and fro because of the airplane. The Japanese did behead people but, not because they were Christians or Jews and Persia is named as a sign of the end-times. Not to mention that earthquakes have increased geometrically.

This is something that you believe and I as a Christian believe that Our God will not let us down. He will save us. You read the whole book of Revelation and there are more than what you listed that will happen. It has been said for years now that we are living in the end time, but no one knows this except for God and Jesus. We are all here along for a ride. In the end we will ALL be judged no matter who we are.

Nothing changed, that type of person is always anticipating the end of the world, they are always looking for something to signify that their doomsday prophecies will come true, maybe they should stop preaching that the world will end and asking people to pray and start making an effort to preserve the world in which we live and contribute to that which may allow us to seperate our fates from the fate of theis planet
