The Bible does not go into any detail on the snake. It is only folklore other than there was a snake and was used in the first prophecy in the Bible. Concerning the snake being bruised in the head. This was showing how Satan would wound Jesus Christ in the heal while Jesus would injure Satan worse in the head.
Satan, never the brightest bulb in the room, was delighted with Jesus death in 33CE. Being resurrected just 3 days later, proved only a slight problem as he then became the second most powerful individual in the universe. Satan remained his same old self and knows his future is not bright. No shades for him.

Well - I see what you're asking - however, it doesn't specifically say that the serpent "lost his legs" - in Genesis 3:14 it says that the snake would be the "cursed" one among all the wild beasts and "...Upon your belly you will go and dust is what you will eat all the days of your life."
And the Bible does tell us later on that the serpent was Satan. In Revelations 12:9 it says "So down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth..."

Kabbalah says the Story of Eden is symbolic. Giving us spiritual truths in a story fashion. That was all people could understand in the Old Days, because they didn't have knowledge of simple things like gravity like we do.
Male and female describes the Masculine and Feminine aspects of the Lifeforce. As they meet at many levels and help to create Life.
The tree symbolizes the dimensions as they rise up from our dimension. Eve being made from Adams rib, the middle of his body, symbolizes that women are not above or below a man, but equal to him in Gods eyes.
The serpent has always symbolized knowledge. Like the two serpents on te staff of the Medical Profession.

There is nothing in the narrative to indicate snakes lost their legs in regards to the events of Genesis.
This narrative is not talking about snakes. It is referring to the devil, and personifies him as a serpent. What you see is a mix of figurative language with literal language.
Snakes do not talk.
The curse on the serpent is a curse on the devil and is analogous to how satan is so cursed, being so low that he is depicted as crawling on his belly like a snake.
Seeing as a lot of the narrative uses figurative and allegorical language, one must use this as a means of gleaning an understanding of the symbols being employed, such as the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and the tree of life, using the rest of scripture to do so.
The tree of life is Christ. Those who "partake" of him will live forever. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil represents the law given to Israel. You need to take into consideration the author (Moses) and when he wrote the narrative, after Israel received the law.
Also of importance is the nature of Adam and Eve's sin. Most believe it was eating the forbidden fruit. Not so. The sin was in disbelieving God (and believing the serpent). Theirs was an act of faithlessness, and the resultant separation from God, and the setting in motion the need of one to save mankind from their sins (based in faithlessness) and the redemption of mankind. To redeem something is to restore it to a former condition.

All the Bible says is that it was a snake. A very clever snake.
Thousands of years later, Milton wrote in Paradise Lost (a work of fiction) that the snake was Satan in disguise.

You don't need these folks to answer it for you. Pick up a bible. The creation story is pretty short. They're all going to give you their pet interpretations that their ministers/priests have all come up with but that aren't actually backed up by scripture. Do your own research!

Well I think you should read the other versions about the story as well just so it is balanced and then write your report. Don't believe everything in the bible, just because it is meant to be the word of God.
Adam & Eve is so misogynist! Why blame Eve?

The snake lost its legs when God cursed it to the ground: "On your belly you will go, and dust you will eat all the days of your life." (Genesis 3:14)
