Don't consider yourself a bad Christian, Christian only means that you believe in Christ. If you don't feel ready to pray to Godnow, what would help you be ready? It doesn't just happen so if you're waiting for something to change your mind about being ready, I wouldn't. If you really want to know what kind of Christian you are, you have to familiarize yourself with the religion and the routines and see if you feel any different doing the basic things like reading the bible, attending church etc., and seeing if it actually helps you to do those things. If not, then don't feel guilty, as long as you really try to make it work, you won't have any room to feel hypocritical. Losing a child is the worst thing anyone could have happen to them, without a doubt. At a time like that it seems appropriate to blame someone or something because you don't know what else to do. It's more of a coping method. Just if you're feeling guilty about being a bad Christian, try doing something about it and see how you feel is what I'm getting at.

I did not go until I was in my mid thirties, and I am hard core! I did not let my children make their own nutritional choices when they were young, either. They all went their own way, but today we share a common belief, though we do not all attend the same church. If it is an opiate, I must have an exceptional tolerance, because it has not fried my ability to think and make sound decisions. {{{8TM}}} Let's chat soon. Do you believe that opposites attract?

That would work. I've wondered about that myself. It always gets into the church and state thing. If they would read it the way it was written and in the context it was written, then interpretation would easily prove it was written to keep church and government separate. To protect the people from being taken over by a church. Not to protect the church from the government.

Well alcohol and cigarettes have biological effects which are more severe when one's organs are still developing. Churches and Bibles affect people more or less only on a mental level, so to apply the same age requirement probably wouldn't make much sense. You'd want to look more at voting ages, or how old one needs to be to drive a car. Also the Bible is one of the most important texts in western literature, and perfectly safe as long as it's treated as the fiction that it is.
A better solution would be to include religious indoctrination in child abuse legislation.

While it's obvious that you find the concept of attending church and studying the Bible to be distasteful, many people do not share your views. It would be wonderful for everyone if each side of this issue to respect the opposing side's point of view and not try to bash them at every opportunity. I have a very strong faith but that's me and I respect your point of view. No one has ever changed their minds about religion by being bashed and having their beliefs compared to poison.

21 years of age before being allowed to know right from wrong...and where would these uneducated youths be housed?
didn't Hitler try that with the kintergarden concept of state run educational farms of children? the hitler youth?
would certainly put a wet blanket on family activities...some of our most fun times together were at the church picnic, summer Bible camp...
What you are suggesting would undermine the American family and family values.....

I believe that the bible should be taugth at an early age because it teaches them morals and right from wrong. Just as anything else you would make sure that the lessons you are teaching them are age appropriate and as they grow they can make up their own minds. And if my memory serves me right Jesus was taken to the temple 8 days after he was born.

I think babies should go to Church even before they can walk, no harm in getting them started young.

i think children should be at least sixteen before being allowed to attend tent revivals, or any place that the preacher is shouting fire, brimstone, and eternal damnation.
that stuff is way too scary for children and can lead to nightmares.

If kids have to wear safety goggles to play conkers then it is just a matter of time before we cocoon everyone untill they're 21 anyway.
