It would be a great deal for Mexico, but I don't see what the benefit is to the United States.

Because our economy in many areas has reached the breaking point with "only" 15 million illegal immigrants in this country. If we opened the border, we would have at least triple that number because Mexico does not want these types of uneducated, poor, dark-skinned people in their country. .Mexico also has an extremely corrupt culture. Absorbing over 30 million more of these people from that type of culture into our culture would be very difficult and costly for at least 2 generations.

The culture of Canada is very similar to ours which means Canadians share the same values as most Americans. Plus Canadians already speak English - even most in Quebec do. Most Mexicans do not. So there is an instant language barrier to deal with when dealing with Mexicans.

There are a variety of reasons why and against joining mexico and USA.

Most of Canada is has a culture, tradition and history more
paralelling the USA than Mexico.

The Standard of living in Canada is closer to the USA than Mexico.

While the USA government has a high level of corruption and some "lawlessness" the Mexican government has a much higher level of corruption and lawlessness.

IF persons and corporations of wealth and power in the USA wanted a combined USA and Mexico, it would have already happend.

Lastly, when I was younger I had this romanticized view of the USA and our government and often hoped that the the borders of the USA would broaden and bring democracy, prosperity and peace and joy to the rest of the world.
Since I have come to know that the US government has its own issues, I do not believe that the USA borders should broaden. Rather, I believe there needs to be a variety of governments and economies so persons of varying abilities and veiws have a greater chance of moving to a country that better suits their beliefs and lifestyle and or to get a fresh start. Further, to many people are victims of government oppression to cover corruption in both the USA and Mexico.
These people need the opportunity to escape the oppression and tyranny they have been subject to in there own countries so they can move somewhere else.

Well, thats my rant for today.

It might be simular to what happened when the two Germanies joined back together after the fall of the Berlin Wall. One vibrant economy joining with a depressed one. The toll was emense. But it did work.
Perhaps it could work if not for Nationalism and racism on both sides. Mexico would need to petition to the US to be accepted as a State. This is unlikely to ever happen because of National pride, language difference and cultural heritage concerns.

It is not up to us to rescue the Mexicans. Canada has a better economy than mexico and it is much less crowded. Visit Mexico some time and you will understand why very few people are gung-ho to get rid of the border. I'm not putting down Mexicans, but their country has very deep financial problems. The government is corrupt. The 3rd richest man in the world lives in Mexico, yet many of the people there don't have enough to eat. Mexico needs to get its own house in order. We can't do it for them.

It's bad enough that we have lost a lot of big jobs due to these companies moving to mexico to save $$ and make a bigger profit by making prods. over there just like china. they may take the less prestigious jobs over americans but a lot of folks lose their jobs due to corps going to other countries for less labor costs. Mexican's get good jobs by this and americans that have worked places for 15+ yrs. lose everything and have to start over making a lot less trying to make ends meet. They still come over here for work. There's got to be borders if we could move freely among mexico as you suggest we wouldn't need passports for any country we go to just come and go as we please. Do you want that kind of freedom for everyone I wouldn't security is crappy as it is it would make it worse.

A corrupt narco-state merging with the greatest country of all time. They wish! Canadians respect the rule of law - for example, they are not protesting for rights while waving a Canadian flag. 3 countries this diverse cannot merge. Mexico just wants to destroy as many countries as possible.

Oh foamy - it was Mexico who kept pushing for nafta.

I am Canadian and am VERY OPPOSED to the idea of a North American Union! Why would I want to consolidate the Canadian dollar with the US dollar. The US does not even have gold to back their money. It's essentailly monopoly money. That's just one reason, I have many others.
There is much more to this Union than what they are letting on. Unfortunatly for the US govenment, the previous Mexican president can't keep his mouth shut so people are becoming more aware of what the North American Union is about.

They are in a separate country. The US has not gone to war for the land those mexicans, etc. live on. If they want what we got they need to fight their own countries for it and leave us alone. If the US wanted pieces of land we would go to war for them. right now a war with mexico is not to our benefit. join america and mexico----no. if it ever happens, you'll be better off livin' in iraq or iran or some similar shithole.
one of these days, we will fight and buddy hold on to your britches, cause you'll be fightin' too.........

i dont think its a good idea, Mexico should stay mexico and the u.s should stauy the U.S ...the only solution in the illegal immigration problem starts with both governments joining together to fight the problem. first mexico needs to do something about their economy to make more jobs and enrich there lands. U.S needs to just beef up its border more and apply strict laws on people who hire illegals ..it will take time but this could work
