I know that there are a lot of christians who do this. But I have noticed a hell of a lot of Atheists trying to do the same thing and pushing their beliefs onto me, trying to prove to me that their way is the only way... it seems very similar to pushing a religion onto someone! I am a christian myself and I like to keep my religion to myself. Even though I am not strongly religious, these people just don't seem to understand that I'm not going to suddenly change my mind and become Atheist!! Don't worry, I seriously want to punch christians in the head who do this too!

Now, as there seems to be a lot of persistent christians and also atheists out there, perhaps the answer could be that there are simply a lot of annoying people out there in the world who won't take no for an answer when their beliefs are rejected... and should have their mouths taped up forever... :)

People should teach or persuade by example. If you tell them, "Not interested," that should be enough. However, I believe people can still show by example that they can still be your friend even if you are not accepting of their values. People can still be kind hearted and nice to one another even if they do not share the same views. However, no one has the right to offend, name call or make threats to another. that is never appropriate.

the reason is that they are insecure in their own beliefs internally (though of course it is unconscious and they would never even think to realize or admit it) a way of bolstering security in their own beliefs is to make other people believe them too. they say that you only need two people to create a "reality". So, if some middle american fundamentalist christian approuches you verbally resist... i would suggest learning gnostic christianity - works like the apocryphon of john, the gospel of thomas, and the pistis sophia to combat their incredibly backwards takes on christianity... the official canon was decided upon in 325 by the most elite and disassociated layers of the priest caste in the servus of the Roman Empire, thus, Christianity became anti-Christianity...

Many lack basic Communications Skills. Humans naturally resent being told what to do. Since we get told what to do so long when little. And people will cut thier own nose off to spite their face, to prove the can't be told what to do!
So why do we try and tell people what to do?
DUHHHH????????
Poeple also think they can make their point of view look better by slamming other peoples viewpoint.
WRONGGGG!!!!
That just pisses people off! Just say what you feel.
Learn some Communications Skills people!

honestly they believe that persistence is the answer.
They also feel that if they show you and tell you how Christ has changed their life then you may be my receptive to learning more. My mom is this way and it is infuriating- especially considering that I am a christian, but not a strong enough one in her opinion. I just ignore her and move on.

Well, I can say many of my Christian brother/sisters try to get me to push the Christian thing on others, but I tend not to. Maybe I don't care enough about them, or maybe I just believe in the free country we live in.

I love my Christian family, but I don't see a need to do anything more than live a good/clean life and give the credit to Jesus.

Lack of reasoning ability? I know you could have figured that one out on your own.... so I suppose this is just a rhetorical question....
But honestly, that is what differentiates christians from the non-theistic: reason.

Rather than being able to apply reason to the situation and conclude that their efforts are futile and only causing more trouble than they solve.... they completely disconnect from that, recognise only that you are aggravated and it is directed at them, and take offense at it in return.

They honestly can't join the dots in their primitive minds... which is a shame, but neither can we do anything about it.

You know, we all do have to remember to say our piece, and leave. Just an opinion; no name calling and put-downs like "I am superior in intelligence and you don't know what you are talking about"..and stuff like that-right?! Actually, Christians should know Jesus said if a house refuses to listen to you, shake the dust from their house and depart from it. (Matt.10:14 is one place to find this) Thanks for reminding us, and we have to realize, all of us, we give an opinion, it's read, and even if criticized, that reader will tend to ponder on it.

Notice you said ALOT...not SOME......haha no hard feelings.

The answer to your question is-we don't just give up on a person because they don't want to hear the word of God. Everyone can hear it, and we will take advantage of that and try to convert our friends and family no matter how hard that is because we love him/her and just want them to get into those pearly gates!!! But I can assure you, Christians who DO call you names and give you threats are not true Christians so please don't think we're all like that cos' we aren't. : )

If they are being forward to the point of rudeness then they are very christian like are they. They are supposed to spread the word but i have found the same as some are very forward. All they do is turn people off. They are consumed and need a reality check.
