at work....wouldn't you just WHITE LIE to protect them.????..You know how vicious people can be at work; hold stuff against you or bring it up in front of others to embarrass you?...(this one department is vicious)...thank God our dept. is fine!!!...actually i see NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT...because it will save someone....what is your opinion when you are swimming with SHARKS????

Yes I would protect them. I do not like seeing people hurt just for vicious peoples' sick amusement.

Thank god I swim "alone" at my job!!!NO co-workers! I think a "white lie" is fine to save someones feelings!

You don't have to lie, but you don't have to tell the truth either. Don't allow your coworkers to drag you into their drama. If someone asks "Did so and so do (whatever)?" Tell them, politely, that they should take it up with so and so. In the long run, they'll respect your integrity that you won't be involved in other people's misdeeds.

it falls back to intent if my intent was to say somethig hatefull to hurt you then their reaction is my fault!

if i'm being truthful and trying to help some one and that is my intent and they get hurt that's there problem and how they react is their issue!

If i know that human is senitive i will be polite enought to express my self in the kind way but again it's my intent!

I would be very careful. You never know when they will turn against you. You should speak to your supervisor or HR director about it. They are creating a toxic workplace.
