My sister n law is struggling with her past right now. That if one doesn't go to her childhood church, she is doomed to hell. She had left the Church when she left her home. And now she has returned to Christ, has confessed Jesus Christ her Lord & Savior, & believes He raised from the dead, but she doesn't feel truly forgiven. Because she feels her sins were maybe too much. And she wants acceptence from her mother. But then her mother thinks she has to return to this particular denomination & ask forgiveness there. And only there can she be forgiven.

Even one verse will help. She needs verses from the Holy Bible to claim. A lot of verses will help more.

God's timing is SO perfect isn't it? I was just discussing this very subject with someone else. AND, I was just given a tape that spelled this out the best I have ever heard it....I will try to say it in a nutshell. God says in 1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is FAITHFUL and JUST to FORGIVE US OUR SINS, and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness." Now, if He said that....who are we to argue?? He did not say..."if you want your sins forgiven you must go to a certain church or belong to a certain denomination." This is where FAITH comes in. If we believe that God IS...and that the Bible is His Word...then we need to believe what He says whether we FEEL it or not. Feelings and faith are not one in the same. If we do NOT believe what He said about forgiving our sins....then we are calling God a liar. Titus 1:2 says that God CANNOT LIE.
I would tell her to claim 1 John 1:9 and BELIEVE it!! And do that wherEVER she is...in her home, on the street, in her car, in a church, in the store...anywhere!

Well first of all, she should explain to her mother that the Church is the Body of Christ and not a certain denomination and we believers are all part of the Body of Christ. Saying that a person should believe in Jesus AND do something (like go to a certain church or worship on a certain day or etc...) only diminishes His death on the cross. Have her read Colossians chapter 2. Tell her to go to the libray and get a book by Charles Stanley called "Forgiveness," published by Oliver-Nelson Books, a division of Thomas Nelson Publishers-1987. Your sister-in-law should also realize how Paul had Christians rounded up to be executed and was forgiven! But, to receive forgiveness, you not only have to ask in faith but believe that you ARE forgiven by faith. If you have doubts about your being forgiven, then you have doubts about God's word! Also, there is only one unpardonable sin and that is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit-Matthew 12:31.

Your a New Creation in Jesus.-its in there!
I've done so much in my past too.
You can't have a testimony with the tests "By the Word of our Testimony and the Blood of the Lamb(Jesus/Yeshua) There will be salvation."
Nothing is too much for God. The Bible says He threw them into the ocean and has forgot them because of Jesus's Blood has covered them. Now we have to forgive our selves and recieve God's forgiveness there is no more shame and gulit of it. As long as we turn from our wicked ways then we can live Joyfully which the Joy of the Lord is our Strength.
His Mercies are new everyday.
His Perfect Love cast out all fear. He does not Give us the Spirit of fear but of Power, Love and a Sound Mind.
The word of God Is alive and active...(Hebrews4:12)
I repeat over and over when I am in a rough spot" I trust you Lord" I remind my self of what He has done.

This is what has helped me.

My favorite verses related to forgiveness are: Ezekiel 18:21-23 "But if a wicked man turns away from all the sins he has committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is right and just, he will surely live; he will not die. None of the offenses he has committed will be remembered against him. Because of the righteous things he has done he will surely live. Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?" She would also do well to remember the teachings of Jesus. He forgave prostitutes and tax collectors. Telling them to "Go and sin no more". You shouldn't let past mistakes negatively influence your future decisions. It is good to learn from your mistakes, but not to let them cripple you with guilt. You're forgiven when you realize that what you did was wrong and then choose to do what is right.

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (I John 1:9).

This doesn't mean that we can always forgive ourselves, but we must always try to forgive ourselves. We have not done anything that can be imagined, that has not already been done by others and forgiven of them. God doesn't lie. He is "faithful and just" to forgive us.

Just study God's Word, pray, and attend a church that YOU want to attend, as long as God's Word is preached there, and try to live a life pleasing to Him.

God bless.

When I was struggling with self-doubt and self-unforgiveness, the Lord sent this verse to me:

(words of Jesus, Himself)
John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Where Paul asked God to take the "thorn from his flesh". And The Corinthians I think. God said, "My grace is good enough for you."
Our Ceator doesn't expect perfection. Man is the one that demands perfection from us. Because he himself cannot be perfect. Like the hypocrites Jesus talked about in Matthew. Who lay heavy burdens on men, impossible for them to bear. (demanding perfection). But Jesus's load is light. Our Creator is well aware of what it is to try and survive in this often uncaring material world. And that we are hurting. And has made provisions for us to overcome this world. By knowing we are foigiven, and there is a better place to our existence.

Tell her to read the example of king David. He was forgiven, he just had to live with the results of his sins. That's normal. I mean, come on - David watched a lady bathe and it turned into killing her husband in the battle lines in order to marry her. That's got to weigh on your conscience for a life-time.

If she doesn't feel forgiven, then she still feels guilty, if she still feels guilty then she hasn't had closure on her issues - and just so you know, there isn't always closure on your problems in life, it's something you'll have to learn to live with or accept.

Hebrews 7:25 - "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them."

1 John 3:19-20 - "And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him." "For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things."
