My step-sister Kelly had bred goldendoodles and plans on doing it again. She has done health testing and makes sure that the pups are healthy. She has a licence She usually sells them for about $200. She breeds them for health and good temperament. Is she a good breeder? Please don't attack her.

Well, she probably means well, but it would be better not to breed them because there are way too many dogs in the shelters who need homes. That being said, she should make sure her dogs are going to good homes, not to be used as pitbull bait, etc. or to be penned up and forgotton about on the back porch in rain, snow, etc. by owners who get tired of caring for them.

Hello
Do Not take me wrong as I am not attacking her in general It is all Breeders of these so called hybrid dogs they really Truly are mutts
there are enough mutts in the animal shelters that need to be rescued why would anyone want to produce more???
Only for Selfish reasons the almighty dollar
Yes she may claim to care for the so called dogs but she is over populating the world with Mutts that serve no purpose other than to make her money
I breed Full Blooded Pomeranian's and Yorkshire Terriers and I do not make a huge profit and I do not breed on a constant basis sometimes I will go 3 years without a litter
I personally know of a so called Hybrid Breeder in our area who will breed the tar out of her dogs and she really comes up with some crazy Mixes and she will breed her females every time they come into season and then she will always keep a female out of the litter and Breed it back to the father
So I do not agree with these so called Hybrid Breeders and I think they rank rite up there with Puppy mill and bad news breeders as they are just Doing this for profit
They are not doing it to better a Breed as there is not such breed registered with AKC so they are basically breeding mutts and over populating shelters and such
So Please don't support those type breeders

You have to ask why is she doing this? How does it benefit her? Really there is no benefit to the 'breed' as it isn't one. Breeds are made over decades through selective mating.
While I commend her on making sure the pups are healthy, unless she and many others plan to work hard at this for many years to come to make this combination of dog a 'breed' then I think she is doing does not benefit anyone, and does not necessarily make her a good breeder.
At the moment all she is doing is getting dogs to have sex for her own profit.

Why do you ask if she is a good breeder, then say not to attack her? Personally, I think the intentional breeding of mixed breed dogs automatically negates the "good breeder" label...if she has a wonderful example of a golden retriever who has all his health clearances, great temperment, and is proven in the show ring, why breed him to a poodle....if he is worthy of recreation, she should have her pick of equally worthy female goldens. The choice to intentionally breed him to some other breed would cause me to feel he's not such a fine specimen after all.....

OK. I'll be as gentle as possible.

On the one hand, she's at least trying to breed healthy, well-tempered puppies.

On the other hand, she's breeding and passing off mongrels (mutts, mixed breeds, whatever you call it) and cashing in on the "designer dog" market.

In other words, license or no, she's breeding puppies solely for money.

I believe the latter outweighs the former - making her irresponsible and not a good breeder.

I don't think she is a good breeder. Good breeders breed to preserve the breed. Make it better. There are TONS of mutts in the world that need homes. She's just adding to the problem.
Sorry, I hope I didn't come off rude

No "good" breeder would breed mutts and thats EXACTLY what they are MUTTS. you could get a GOLDEN RETRIEVER/POODLE MIX at a shelter for way less than that and you would be saving a life at the same time. tell you're sister to stop making more unwanted MUTTS. i hate those designer names, if you said golden retriever/poodle mix people would look at you like you're crazy but what some people don't realize is that a "goldendoodle" is actually a mutt, i wish some people would realize that and stop MAKING MORE MUTTS AND SELLING THEM FOR $200!!
rediculous and very sad at the same time.

It sounds like she is attempting to be, but by breeding mutts she is failing. Unless she is working with many dogs with the intent of creating a new breed that is consistent, healthy and predictable then she should be either breeding pure breeds, or not breeding at all.

Goldendoodles are mutts some may call them Designer Dogs. These dogs are just mutts even if the parents are AKC registered. I do applaud your sister for making sure that they are healthy before breeding them.

I hate them, they call them designer breeds...I was walking my dog through a sub division and a women told me she paid $1500 for a Goldendoodle, I couldn`t help but laugh..She was angry, I told her I paid $700 for my pure bred dog, I told her she over paid for her mutt!! Why are they making such a big deal of these dogs??? They`re ugly, and high strung, not to mention very poorly bred most of the time... Wealthy people are paying an arm and a leg for them... They look like oversized sheepdogs..
