My neighbor has about 10 cats. Most are sick. None are spayed or neutered. At least 3-4 of them show up at my house every day, fighting with our cats and begging for food.

My husband has shot at them with an airgun and we yell and chase them away but they keep coming around. My neighbor says he will try to round them up "one of these days" but does nothing. I get no help from the city.

Animal control says they don't deal with cats. What are we to do?? Kill them and bury them and be done with it? I don't want to have to round up sick aggressive cats and make a 45 minute trip to the pound!

We have a dog but he's in a fenced area. He chases the cats if we let him out, but they just come back again. I can't leave the dog out all day b/c he will roam AND chase my OTHER cats.

Unfortunately, that is the only way you are going to get anything done it seems like. Get yourself a humane trap and start trapping them, (be sure to wear some heavy gloves so you don't get scratched while picking up the trap.) don't wait for your lazy neighbor to do something, obviously he has no intention to. Take them to the pound...also, I would start complaining, there has to be a leash law in your city about stray animals...I was an Animal Control officer for years, and I would start by being a pain in the ***...call your city council all the time about it, the mayor, whatever it takes to get the problem under control. Unfortunately, lots of cats in one place also mean the inside of your neighbor's house could be pretty icky too if they aren't taking care of those cats. Good luck, and it really sucks that your City has no provisions for dealing with nuisance cats.

Beyond the ethical issue of shooting animals, there's a legal consideration. Your neighbor might very well charge you with destruction of property for killing his cats.

Since you stated that animal control does not deal with cats in your area, I would suggest that you contact the health department if the cats are sick, particularly as you don't know what they might be carrying around and they could easily infect other pets.

Wondermom has an excellent idea in sprinkling pepper around the perimeter of your fence. That will absolutely discourage four-legged trespassers. You can also place something sticky on the outside edges. Cats really hate that, but your cats won't be bothered. Any kind of metal also works for this purpose. Water balloons on the fence base is an additional deterrant.

sounds like you already have the answer, just dont want to make the effort. Tell your neighbor that you plan to start taking them to the pound. If he does nothing then Catch the 2 most aggresive ones. Take them to the pound. Wait a week, if its still bad, take 2 more. By this time your neighbor will notice them missing. If he asks then tell him what you did. Warn him again. 2 a week till the problem is gone.
Before this starts, be dam sure that our cats don't ever go into his yard.

If you can't get any help from your neighbor, then obviously he doesn't really care about what happens to his cats.

So YES, I would go ahead and get rid of them (kill them) in the most humane way possible.

Or, press the city harder to fix the problem. Even if you get rid of these cats, the problem won't go away. It's not good for your town. Here's a chance for you to bring attention to it.

Since they are not your cats I agree you shouldn't have to bear the burden of rounding them all up and going to the pound - where they are going to be killed anyway within a matter of days. Most people will NOT adopt sick or aggressive cats.

No, you may no longer lay traps. you may although, call your community Humane Society. they could pop out, look at the situation and communicate on your neighbor privately. they could in all probability concern your neighbor a quotation or in all probability an excellent for letting the cat out whilst this is meant to be interior. i do no longer comprehend what could be completed approximately your rabbits. it may desire to be like how pit bulls and different canines mull different animals and that they each and every so often positioned the animal down. the previous vendors the two bypass to detention center and/or pay an excellent. i think of they're going to warn your neighbor to maintain the cat interior, although. could desire to your pals no longer heed the government' suggestion, the animal administration officers make take the cat away. only call 'em in the previous you do something.

LOL! Yeah, a dog will do the trick, but if you sprinkle some red pepper along your fenceline, they will stay away. You can buy it on the spice isle at the grocery store. (Cayenne, etc.) While they're sniffing around for food, their nostrils will be on fire and they will associate that with your yard. It's harmless to them (except for the burn) and won't hurt your grass or plants! Works on stray dogs in the trash also. And you may want to call animal control if she isn't taking proper care of them and most places have a limit on the # of animals you can have in a residential area.

I've always heard that there are certain herbs that you can plant that keep cats away-they don't like the smell. Other common remedies are citrus fruit peel, chilli pepper powder or eucalyptus oil around the yard-the smell keeps them away.

Sounds as though your husband is breaking the law. Perhaps he should be shot as well.

If you live in a country without a proper animal welfare sustem then you will have to take humane action yourself. No more shooting the poor creatures. They need to be trapped, vaccinated, neutered and rehomed. If your neighbour won't do it then threaten him with legal action and if that doesn't work then you will just have to stop moaning and get on with doing it yourself.
