It shouldn't play a big part at all. The issue stands, and how well one can do the job as President is what should be taken into account. I have voted for elected officials from all backgrounds in the past and expect to do so in the future - unless they of course took their religious beliefs to such an extreme they became fanatical - then I would not vote for them on the basis of fanaticism, not religion. I thnk it is absurd that his being mormon has such a bearing on his running, and think it's a little scary that that's what citizens look at when deciding who to vote for. I guess it explains some things......

I am mormon, and I may or may not vote for Romney....it depends on how I think he can do as President - if he makes it that far at all.

I would not vote for nor against a person simply based on their religion. It is a presidential election after all. However, I think that it would be nice to see a president who is a faithful and dedicated member of a church. If they are true to their beliefs it might help us to have an honest, hardworking, president with strong moral values. It would also be nice to have a president who is a role model and leader because of the way that they conduct their life rather than solely because of virtue of the office they hold.

It would be nice to say that voters are mature enough not to judge a person due to their sex, race or religion. Your comments however indicate that religion may be an issue for some.

A person's religion should not be a factor in voting for president, if the voter is looking for the best person for the job. However, I would not be surprised if there are biased, prejudiced voters out there who would make it an issue.

For me, religion has never been a factor before. With all of that said, I do think that Mitt Romney is the best person for the job and he will get my vote.

Religion shouldn't matter at all. We are living the consequences of electing a leader based solely on his religious platform.

I don't care whether or not someone is a Mormon, but I don't have to worry about that, in this election at least, because I rarely ever vote Republican.

growing up in UT and being an ex-mormon, I knew the mormons would have loved to get a mormon in office so they could change the laws. I know a black man and a jew have never been president besides a women, so I am not so sure about Mitt Romney, I personally am voting for republican across the board. Anyways, They say our current president is a christian, but I hear he is a freemason and I do not believe the two can co-exist, but christian men try it all the time, I see cars in my church parkinglot with the freemason symbols on their cars all the time. Anyways christians were delighted in Bush's stand on prolife and his negative stand on stemcell research and he appointing a black minister to PRAY at some meeting, so I am sure Mitt, if made pres. will have some of his religion flow into office, if not all.

I don't think religion will hurt his chances at all. People will vote for him based on how they feel he would be as President.

I'll vote for a Mormon. Especially if he is the best candidate. I would rather vote for a Mormon than a socialist.

We went through the same thing when JFK ran because he was a Roman Catholic. Nothing anyone can say can overcome religious bigotry.
