A lot depends on what age the dog was when the previous owner had him, and how the dog was treated.

If the dog was mistreated by a previous owner, then yes, they will definitely remember them. They will also fear anyone they feel is the same as that owner, i.e., if a man mistreated them, they will fear men, if a short, stocky woman mistreated them, they will fear short, stocky women, if they were hit or struck with an object, they will fear that object.

If the dog was a puppy and well treated by a previous owner, they will typiclly remember that person as a great friend and will always be glad to see them.

Absolutely. Dogs even remember people who took care of them for maybe a week or two, and treat them very affectionately when they see them again. Past owners, particularly original owners, hold a special place in a dog's heart if they treated the dog well.

I would say they do; however, dogs "live in the moment" and I don't think they dread on things in the past like many people do but they definitely remember past owners. I hate to think they do though because I recently adopted a dog who was severly neglected by her previous owners and I'd hate to think she still remembers all of that- sad situation.

At first when a dog move to the new owner's house, the dog will definitely remember his past owner.but as time pass,i guess that dog will start to forget his past owners.dogs are like humans, they forget sometimes too.

i think they do. once i rescued a dog from the streets and found a home for him.

now we knew by the dogs behavior when i found him that he had been abused. he shied from your hands when you tried to pet him and tucked his tail in and shivered and ran away from you. then he realized how nice his new owners where and became an outgoing and playful dog.

about 3 or 4 months later the first owner said he wanted his dog back and went to the new owners house to talk to them about it. when the dog heard his old owners voice he ran and hid in the closet shaking and shivering, totally scared to death. seeing him run and hide like that just confirmed that he had been abused.

the old owner couldn't prove that he had owned the dog and had no legal right to it. the only way we knew for sure that he had at one time had the dog was by the dogs behavior when he heard him. the dog has never behaved that way since.

Of course they were their first owner and the dog will always remember that and believe it or not in a chance encounter I actually found my dogs original owner and now he visits her on a regular basis

When I was a kid.......a long time ago, when there wasn't any leash laws. We got a puppy. Eventually it grew up and decided to chase the cars driving down our street. Speed limit was 30-35. My parents just knew that eventually this crazy car chasing dog would get hit and possibly killed, and worse in front of us kids.
So they decided to give this dog to my grandparents who lived right on the ocean. Wonderful place. We'd go out and visit every now and then during the summer months. I remember after we gave them our dog and going out to visit there was times when the dog wasn't at the house. She was outside some place. So me and my family would start walking up the beach and in the meantime looking for the dog. Every now and then we'd turn around to see if she was behind us. I can't tell you how many times this happened but we'd do this and eventually when we'd look back to see if she was there we'd see this dark spot in the distance. The spot would get bigger and bigger and then we'd see the legs. She'd be haulin a*s towards us everytime and so damn happy to see us. So yes definetely they remember!

I have seen that the dogs have outstanding memory, not only of persons but also words of command taught by previous owner. They remember every objects of the house too.

Dogs do remember past experiences, especially in terms of how they relate to present circumstances. If you have a dog whose previous owner always gave it ice cream, your dog will probably get excited when you get the tub of ice cream out.
