I have to write a paper about this quote. I'm trying to figure out the full meaning behind it. I think it means you have to have self-esteem and high confidence and the belief that you can do and achieve anything. Any thoughts? Why do people have low self esteem?

It's true you have to think you are worth the effort to even try.

People do not get what they get in life because they 'deserve' it; they get what they get because they choose it. But people who don't think much of themselves are not as likely to make certain choices.

For example, I'm a working Mom of two. Once in a while I'll take an afternoon off of work and go get a massage. My friends will say, "That's great, you deserve it!" but I don't *care* if I deserve it or not, I do it because I want to and I can. BUT if I had low self-esteem, I might feel guilty about taking that time only for myself when I'm not doing anything for anyone else, and not do it, even though I could very legitmately do it.

Looking at the quote I have to think that maybe it's not so much that you think you are worthy, but you have to NOT think you are NOT worthy, if that makes any sense. It's the negative that holds you back; the positive doesn't even have to be there for you to make certain choices. I work hard, I take it for granted I am worthy of whatever I choose. I don't even think about it or wonder if I am. I just choose.

I believe in the quote and I think people have low self-esteem because they are constantly made fun of and be-littled.

I think so. What you think of yourself has a lot to do with how well you do in life. A positive attitude gets you a lot further.
If you are down on yourself and down on life, you'll have a much harder time.

It means that it takes a great deal of strength to go against the world and keep to your faith.
