it's a simple question... should have a simple answer. anything other than god being a sadistic joker wouldn't make much sense to me. i've heard people say everything from aids to tsunamis are works of god to punish those who are unholy. and so what does he do with the unholiest (satan)? he gives him earth to rule over. geez, god really knows how to dish out the punishment.

The bible can answer your question. Adam and Eve were lied to by Satan who convinced Eve that she could decide for herself what is good or bad. By doing this, Satan was in-as-much saying that humans don't need God and that they can govern themselves. This then was a challenge to God's soverenty. Next, Satan accused God of giving the man Job everything needed to have a satisfying life, but that without those things, Job would curse God to his face. This is found at Job 1:6-12. So Satan is taunting God with the idea that People choose to follow God for material gains, but God is maintaining that people obey him because of their heart felt love for the love God is showing them. Please notice the verse at Proverbs 27:11.

In light of all this, it should be easy to see that if God destroyed Satan now, both angels and humans could see it as God's doing away with a Challenger who just might have been right. Then in the eyes of all intelligent creation, God would be thought of as a tyrant.

God is justice, he doesn't work the way a mobster would. Gee, somebody doesn't agree with me, let's just kill him sort of logic. No. Satan raised the argument about how humans should set the standard of what is right and what is wrong in their eyes, and become god's themselves, NOT needing God. Millions of angels witnessed this argument (both in Genesis and in the book of Job). The humans God had created agreed with Satan. But God knew better and said that there would be people who would be wise enough to know that they did in fact need God to look after things instead of human governments. So he is letting Satan and those who follow him prove to God that he was in fact right. What has Satan proven so far?

Jesus now rules over the heavens and the earth, and satan is a fugitive and a vagabond, with no place to hide, except behind those he is still able to confuse and manipulate.

If God decided to get rid of evil this very moment, he would have to get rid of ALL of it ... including EVERY sinner of EVERY kind ... which would include you and me, as well.

I would prefer to remain patient, trusting in God to ultimately bring about a better outcome, where only those thoroughly confirmed in evil are destroyed, and the rest, who might change their evil ways when given the chance, might be saved.

Satan was created a spirit being. If God destroyed him, that would make God a liar and a murderer.

And Satan is no longer ruler over the earth:

John 12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

Does it occur to you that you are being the unwitting tool of the devil in what you are saying?

Just, God has his plan when, where, how! Only the Bible speak a little about that! In his time he will do what he has to do with satan, but He(God) wont destroy him!

lucifer was created immortal. he cannot die. he will be sent to the lake of fire at the end of the millenial reign. But he cannot be killed. Man is the ruler of earth, not satan. he is the prince of the power of the air, not the earth. God told man in Genesis to have dominion over the earth and subdue it, thus taking any power that satan might have had prior to man being created.

Satan dwells in all of us. It is the dark side. We all have good and bad. It is up to us to choose which path to follow. Keep in mind, even Lucifer is God's creation.

Therefore the battle between good and evil will continue. Until the great battle. Then God will win.
