When they has the "gas Crunch" as we called it back then yes it was rationed. I was in CA. at that point in time and they rationed it by plate numbers on your car. So if your license plate ended in an even number you got gas on even numbered days. Same with odd numbers, odd numbered days. I honestly do NOT remember how variety plates were done. BUT I will say it was all a bunch of BULL S*IT. I say this as I was working at a gas station back then, and we got a gas delivery one day and the station owner told the truck driver he could NOT except the delivery as he did NOT have room in his tanks. The Corporate office was called and they told him PUMP it and take the delivery. He told the mother company he couldn't as he didn't have enough odd number plate cars coming in to sell it. They once again told him pump and take the load of gas and they didn't care HOW he did it, just do it. He dropped the price on the spot and pumped to ANY AND ALL vehicles that came in. He took the load within an hour or two.
