Audio cassettes never were very good as far as quality was concerned. They were simply convenient. So I don't think most people ever considered converting them to CD. Buying replacement CD's also gave higher quality.

For me, I had a LOT of tapes and quality wasn't so important as CD compatibility. The only way I could convert them was to record each track onto my computer and I found Voyetra (Turtle Beach) to be best, easiest, & cheapest for me. Voyetra calls it Audio Surgeon now.

And then I still needed a CD burning software, of which there are also many. When I was burning CD's, I think I used something called Direct CD. The rare occasion now that I do it, I use Nero, but only because it's what I have. There are probably better ones out there.

Mostly it's just time consuming.
