A consuming fire burns up whats in its path and leaves what it consumes differently than how it found it. God comes in our life and makes us different than how He found us

Fire can be destructive or save your life!
Fire cooks your food, keeps you warm, and can be
dangerous as well. Fire can be either very useful or destructive. In the passage, fire is used as a
way to describe God. For example, if you say,
"Your dad or brother is as strong as a bear"
A bear can be dangerous, but that is not what you
mean when you say that! You don't mean dangerous
or angry all the time (mean), you mean strong to protect you.
When we say God is a consuming fire, it is used
in a poetic sense. It means that God - when you
love God, you love Him so much that you forget
about doing wrong - the wrong doing is burned up and
the good remains in your heart when God is present
- you love others and God fully. In this case, fire represents
a passion and goodness.

Hebrews 12:29 We should worship God with reverence because he is a consuming
fire! Mmm. What does that mean? Is the focus on his holiness? Does
this warn of judgment? Is this an expression of his purity? Yes,
YES, YES! You see, God is holy and pure and righteous. Our
imperfections, flaws, failures, and sins stand out glaringly in
comparison to his perfection. Yet, rather than destroying us with
his holy fire, he can make us new and clean and more than what we
once were. So not only can we draw near to him because of Jesus, we
can stay near him as we live Jesus' life in our world (see Hebrews
13). That, dear friend, is reverential worship at its finest!

I believe the concept was supposed to refer to "the refiner's fire", in which impurities are melted out of metals by applying extreme heat. God is a consuming fire because the things allowed into our lives may be difficult, but they shape and mature us into better and stronger people.

This verse is in reference to Hebrews 17-24.

Moses and the Israelites saw God's presence as fire and smoke when they came to Mt. Sinai. They were filled with fear and trembling because of the awe of His power and might. They enter into covenant with Him there, receiving the Laws of the ten commandments.

In contrast, our covenant is given by Jesus, who by God's mercy and grace has opened heaven itself (Mt. Zion) and the kingdom of God to us. He will shake the heavens and the earth, and all of creation will be destroyed and disappear, yet His kingdom shall not be shaken.

The terror felt by that generation at Sinai will be nothing compared to that which will be felt by those who can not see spiritual realities and fail to enter the kingdom through Christ.
It reminds us how holy our lives, and how fervent our praise and thanksgiving should be as we worship our awesome God.

A ingesting hearth; Deuteronomy 4:a million; Hebrews a million:a million-13:25; Isaiah a million:a million-sixty six:24 such to all rejecters of our Lord Jesus Christ, surprisingly people who've apostatized from him. hence all who've set out in a thank you to heaven could persevere, despite trials could assail them, until eventually faith is swallowed up in imaginative and prescient, and want in infinite excitement. All sturdy reasons are on the area of perseverance in obeying God, trusting in Christ for what's needed to try this and to be known in it. The different way is maximum unreasonable and depraved, would be condemned via God and all sturdy beings, and could fill people who pursue it with ingesting terrors continually in eternity.
