Many protestants, esp. if they're fundamentalists, tend to worship the bible instead of the God it points to. It sounds like you've have your share of indoctrination by them.
Ignore them. The bible is not the first word God spoke and it won't be the last. When trying to find the reality of God, read and study the bible, but after that, listen to what God might be saying in your heart.
Also find yourself a good, wise, patient spiritual advisor. Somebody you can meet with on occasion to ask questions about God, spirituality, psychology, etc. I'd suggest NOT getting a fundamentalist. :)

Well, guilty of having used that argument myself (Harry: proof of Hogwarts), it actually doesn't hold up. The difference being that Rowlings didn't INTEND people to believe, in the sens of thinking it's all true, whereas it's debatable what, exactly, authors of the Bibles intended people to believe in, literally. Certainly that there's a supreme being IS something they intend people to accept as true. So, as I say, even though I've used it, kinda bogus. The point, however, is that the Bible is NOT proof that there IS a god, just that the authors BELIEVED there is. But people have believed all sorts of things that aren't true. That people wrote about it as though it were true is not PROOF. And most people believe that some stuff in the Bible IS true -- the stuff that's been verified historically: that such a king lived at such a time; that there was this or that war, or whatever. Nothing written about Hogwarts or Harry is true. But your other tack -- which god -- does hold water. Um, your religious teacher? Why are you arguing with her about this? You're not only not going to change her mind, but are likely to get a bad grade for your efforts. Consider thinking whatever you like, but finding other people to argue about it with. Just saying....

No it is not. Claiming that it is amounts to nothing more than circular reasoning

of course not.
I guess that's why some people fear Harry Potter - they don't understand the difference between fiction and reality.
