I understand this is a way to get people off of their backs for a usually disgusting act or way of life, but obviously they are acknowledging God. Do they realize what his judgement will be? I'd take all of the judgement of world before I'd want to challenge God's judgement, because it's forever.

i already have a couple of remarks about there being "no god." thanks for answering the wrong question. i guess that part about these people "acknowledging God" didn't make it on to your page. but its ok, i won't judge you for it.

i think the most notable one i heard was jenna jameson saying that when ABC was doing a tour of her house and she had a bunch of crosses in it.

That's partly true.By saying so,they aren't challenging the God's judgment but hope to,firstly pacify people confronting them and secondly, feel that since they aren't being believed now, they shall accept what ever the judgment is meted out to them by God.

People do a lot of things out of ignorance when it comes to God and faith. I once had a friend who told me a joke, it's kind of racy but the punch line goes, "If you don't want my help, then stop saying, 'Oh God'". People just don't get it.
I know where you are coming from. You see they are doing something morally wrong and -- when you point out how dangerous it is for their eternal soul -- they say, "Well, only God can judge me, so shut your pie hole". I know we're supposed to correct our brother when they do things that can hurt them. We can't, however, force them to realize what they are really doing to themselves. Just be aware that God knows your intentions and God also knows the other persons heart. Do what you need to do to feel that you are obeying God and what the Bible has to say. That's all you can do. If the other person refuses to listen, you did what you were supposed to do. It's up to God to open their eyes and heart.
If they don't listen, maybe someday they will remember what you had to say when they hit the bottom of the barrel. Maybe then they will call on God. Until then, there's nothing you can do to change that person's behavior once you've pointed it out.
It's hard to turn a blind eye when you have a strong sense of compassion. Do what your conscience/God's Word says and then move on. God can use it later to reach this person if they don't accept it right away.

I don't think that they're challenging God. They're saying yes I sin and so do you so who are you too judge me. No one is perfect and everyone has their flaws some more than others but you are not God and don't know their hearts therefore have no right to criticize them.

Fisher,
It is normal to want others to stay out of "Our Business" that is understood. It is also normal for people to want to be extremely nosy of others affairs. What we need to remember is that GOD will send CHRIST to Judge each of us and be able to answer for the sins that are committed on this earth. Some of those sins may be as simple as wishing ill fortune on someone. Have a great week.
Thanks,
Eds

Saying, "only God can judge me" is usually a statement that means, "I disagree that the human law I broke is just. " and that the person feels their actions will be vindicated by the divine court.

"only GOD can judge me" can be correct in the sense that the judgement of GOD is perfect, final, complete regarding a humanbeing's overall life lived on the earthly plane and all the deeds committed by him which will be weighed on the scales of balance of faith and morality on the day of judgement by almighty GOD HIMSELF.

This is a cop-out, as you say its true its usually used after someone did something un-defensible.
Katherine Harris used this after her dishonorable actions in the Florida elections in 2000. Translation was:
"Democrats support abortion which is killing babies so I can justify anything in getting Republicans elected."

Brother, I respect what you believe in. But look, if the courage of your conviction is that there's no such thing as " only God can judge me", why not rephrase that question and ask "Is your God the only judge ?" But if you ask me that question point blank, I'd say YES! Equally as I respect your belief, you must respect our beliefs, and your question should not have been posted, for it invites unnecessary debate and animosity. Be tolerant of others faith and belief much as we do yours, please. Peace to you!

They'll realise it only when they are face to face with the judge in a court case; when the judge is about to pass sentence.
