I've heard a few Christians say that atheists could not have genuinely searched for God, because if they had, they would have found him.

Is it equally fair to say Christians have not honestly applied rational thought to their beliefs, otherwise they'd be an atheist?

Christians have no clue how hard most of us Atheists have searched. Don't you all think that we wanted to be good Christians? Don't you think we tried with all our hearts? I did, I cried at nights about it. I was miserable because I thought that since I didn't buy the whole god delusion, that I was going to hell.

It is not fair to make generalizations about ANYONE. No one has the right to judge someone they have never met. I am sure that there are plenty of Christians who are open to evolution. There are many Christians who accept science and praise their god for it.

It's not really fair to overgeneralize and classify a huge group of people as being totally homogeneous, no.

There are those who value faith over reason, yes. But there are also those who have done a lot of study and soul-searching, and somehow come to a synthesis of faith and reason that works for them.

Why can't we respect that people have the right to make decisions about their own lives as long as they don't force anyone else to believe/disbelieve the same way they do? Why do someone else's conclusions about the meaning of life matter to anyone but that person?

No offense taken. As individual who grow to be as quickly as a Christian, i might say which you're interior the area you're in because of the undeniable fact which you probably did no longer get it. Christianity calls for faith. without faith, no longer something could be understood. yet on your question. The Bible is the observe of God. 2 Timothy 3:sixteen says as lots. in case you do not have self belief interior the Bible, then you definately can on no account hear God's observe, which leads you to the place you're. the undeniable fact that there are various that go through in this worldwide is fullyyt as much as God, and be certain there's a reason. whilst we, as mere adult adult males, fail to be certain one, that does no longer mean that one does no longer exist. God's know-how a techniques surpasses our very own, and we won't be able to even start to comprehend. on the subject of hell, there are could interpretations of that place the place dishonored souls go. individually, i've got self belief that that's in common terms a separation from God. even nonetheless, I do even have self belief that all and sundry will spend time interior the Lake of hearth for the purpose of purification. What you're experiencing is the consequence of taking your arms from the plow. I rather have considered it many situations, and that's the reason we are suggested against doing so. the myth of the seven spirits applies here, and that i might say which you're additionally having a splash the fallout of this besides. fact of the undertaking is, God spoke the words of the Bible for our very own reliable, and to coach us a thank you to stay that is a blessing, no longer a curse. In our lack of expertise, some human beings have self belief that all of us comprehend greater valuable, or locate it impossible to have self belief in a author God, or only are not interested in having a God who judges our movements. in spite of everything, the consequence is the atheist/agnostic place, which renders us in greater worry than as quickly as we first started, as interior the story of the seven spirits. in some unspecified time interior the destiny in time, distinctive via God, the suffering will end, and perfection would be ushered in, and additionally you rather do no longer go with to omit that. even nonetheless, your place will avert that. i might propose which you re-examine, because of the fact the hour is overdue for this age. i'm hoping I rather have presented no offense. Be properly.

I think that's an incredibly arrogant statement.

Actually, both of them are unreasonably arrogant.

But what do I know about reason? I am, after all, a Christian.

EDIT: In general, I'm not a fan of the "stoop to their level" mindset. I see that a lot here. Just because one side is rude or condescending, the other seems to think they have a right to be just as rude and condescending because "they started it." Honestly, I would hope we're all more mature than that.

No to your first question.

And the way I look at it is, nearly ALL atheists really have searched for God. The problem is, many of them have DEMANDED for God to "show" Himself. We aren't supposed to make demands of God like that. "Give us a sign!"

He's given us signs. Loads of them. But because they're not what some people would expect, they don't see them.

Two gross over-generalizations. They might be true about SOME Christians and SOME atheists, but making blanket statements like that is ridiculous.

I think a Christian view is rationally possible. It just requires a lot of faith.

I don't think that they're right, but it's not impossible.

I hate it when I hear either side of this argument.

It means the person making it has no idea what exactly factors into personal belief. They oversimplify and make a false conclusion.

F(belief)=∑ (+/-socialization +/-∑life experiences +/-education)

It is fair in terms of sparring to make your point, but both arguements are fallacies.
