then it just switches off...... any ideas >? i really don't want to have to buy a new one....

So sorry about this.
I think, it's inner assembly my be disturbed so go for remade it. Another reason i think is may it's control setting is changed
not by you but another person.

Congratulations! Your camera is now a really cool paperweight.

Since dropping is considered abuse your warranty won't cover repairs. Repairs will cost more than a new camera so start shopping.

When you get your new camera get a neck strap for it. When it isn't hanging around your neck or on a tripod it should be in its protective case.

before taking drastic action simply try charging it, drops can quite often of set the internal charge indicator making the camera think it out of juice hence why it turns it self off trying to preserve battery give it a charge what you got to loose

maybe u should take it into a shop that woulde be chaper then buyin a new one
