He's always been so good since being a kitten, but recently he's been pooping all over the bedroom! He even covers it up with our clothing, which doesn't make for a pleasant surprise when you go to straighten up in the evening. I don't understand. Any one have an idea? Thanks. :)

I clean the litter box on a daily basis, so it isn't messy or smelly. Trust me, when it is sitting next to my dresser of clothing, I don't want the smell either. :(

Possible feline dementia, or could be bladder infection. You need vetinary advice, take a sample of his urine with you.Bowel problems obviously could be a factor. But urine infections can create confusion of your cat's mind, whiich could cause him to do this.. I hope it's nothing too serious.

This is actually a common problem with older cats. Did the tests run at the vet's office include tests for kidney issues? A cat my family had when I was growing up had a kidney problem and he started not neglect the litter box. I've also heard it's more common in male cats.

Your litter brand may of changed formulas and have upset the balance or smell your cat is familiar with.
If you have used the same litter box for nine years try to wash it out throughly and find a new brand of litter to help your cat be happy to use the box again.

Your sweetie isn't young anymore...I'm guessing he is dealing with a medical issue. Take him to the vet to get checked out. Cats usually like to use their litter box..especially if he has always used it before...and try to be understanding as he may not be feeling well. Good luck!

He could have an abscess in his paw or something else that is bothering him to dig in his litter box, as I am sure clothing is easier to cover up his poo with than litter. He needs to go to the vet.

I think Ollie's right: this cat is on his last legs. But if he otherwise seems okay, take him to the vet and spend a lot of money on diagnostics. Or maybe he needs a girlfriend.
Soon as my cat starts doing that he's going in a Goodwill container to live.

I'm sure it must be age and confusion. My cat is 17. He still pees in the box but craps everywhere else.

You know they say that when living gets old, it develops funny habits. A 9 year old cat is a really old cat.
