my upbringing i have been taught that all other religions are the wrong ones. i have had countless arguements with my paretns because i keep telling tehm i dont believe in jesus or the bible but i do believe there is a god. my dad keeps threatening me that if i ever left being a christian he would kill me, so yer i think from my side where the upbringing is strong its safe to say that they believe that atheists are on teh highway to hell

Christians follow the Bible, which states that no one comes to the Father, except through the Son (John 14:6). Also ref. John 3:16, Acts 2:38.
But you are correct -- no one, esp. Christians can or should judge another or tell them they are going to hell (Judge not, lest ye be judged (Matthew 7:1). Only God can and will judge us.
But FYI I think that the term "going to hell in a hand basket" is actually one that some Atheists on R&S use as a joke. One person even has that has his/her avatar (picture of a basket) and screenname ("In a Basket").

Christians have never claimed to be perfect. We more or less use that phrase as a saying when somebody or a group of people are just throwing their life away. It doesn't necessarily have to be a group of atheists.
I'm not sure I agree with you that we are judging people by saying that. It's more like an observation. Plus, why do you care what we say? We're crazy people that believe that we are not the greatest thing in the universe and are weak minded enough to need the comfort of living for something here on earth so we can enjoy the rest of eternity with our God in Heaven.
This is not the reason I believe that Jesus is my Lord and Savior, but is it fair to say atheists have a 50% chance of being correct and christians have a 50% chance of being correct. Okay, so if you believe and you're wrong, once you die nothing happens. If you don't believe and you're wrong, you endure eternal suffering.

I think no one will truly know until we are dead. Religion is 100% faith and most facts can usually be argued. Some say religion is the greatest tool to control the masses through fear. I say if I have a belief and I am wrong when I die, no big deal because I won't even know, but if I do not believe and I am wrong.....Bad news. Live your life good by respecting others and you will be ok and probably avoid the hand basket ride.

That is a very good question,,,,I never condemn anyone for their beliefs..I am a christian and I feel that if I were raised in a family that had atheists beliefs I might also be atheist..If I were born in a Jewish family I probably would have Jewish beliefs...I just feel that God will give everyone the chance to learn about and Love him the way he wants us to in order to be with him in heaven some day...I think if you are a good person and live a good life He will give you and all the oppertunity some how ,some day to know him and believe in him.....I love all people and I do not Judge them,,,that is God's Place not mine!...PEACE To ALL!!!

Isn't it great how most of the answerers claim that telling your you're going to Hell is not judgemental?
I suppose that if their personal beliefs (not necessarily those of their religion) is that anyone who doesn't believe in God/Jesus/whatever goes to Hell regardless of their actions - good or bad - then they're not being judgemental, they're just being a**holes for trying to push their beliefs upon you.

Yes, all atheists are going to hell in a handbasket.
We're not supposed to judge people in the sense of being critical, especially if we're guilty of the same things we're criticizing people for. Saying people are going to hell is not a criticism.
But clearly you can't live without making judgments about people. I mean anybody who gets married or hires a baby sitter has to make judgments about people. You wouldn't want to marry just ANYBODY or let just ANYBODY take care of your kids.
If you read the new testament carefully, you'll find that you HAVE to make judgments about people. So that is not what the Bible is talking about when it condemns judgmentalism.

That is a awesome question. Well, Atheists do not believe in any god. Christians believe in the Messiah/Jesus.
If you feel comfortable, go to a church and ask their preacher about this question. Don't feel shy to do it, it is a great question that many people wouldn't think of.

I don't claim to represent all christians.
I'm working out my own salvation.
However, I personally would not stuff anyone in a handbasket and point him toward the highway to anywhere.
Although, that doesn't mean, either, that I accept his beliefs.
