If God gave us free will...then why is it that you cant want what you want.

"Can't want what you want" makes no sense. Could you clarify or re-phrase the question?

You can want for anything but God knows what would be best for us and that is why sometimes the answer to prayer is no. Look back on things you wished for as a child. Imagine if some of those wishes had come true!

You're going to need to explain yourself a little more, because it seems to me that it's impossible to NOT want what you want. By the law of identity, if you want something, then you want it. So you must mean something else that isn't obvious. And it isn't clear from the way you expressed your question what free will (or lack of free will) has to do with wanting what you want.

There is a very old quote from someone like Thomas Aquinas, "Love God and do as you please".

The thing is , if you truly love God you will be pleased to do what he wants because you love and trust Him.

it's nice to have all we want. But some of the things we want can come back and bite us in th @ss. So not all that we want is good.
