Nascar should take a long look at how they run things. The top 35 drivers sucks. Just look at Talladega. Look at the driver who Qualified well and didn't get a chance to race. My thoughts are Nascar should make Qualifying mean more than showing up running a Qualifying lap and knowing al;ready your in and bumping someone else who's giving it all to make a name for themselves. Nascar should give points for qualifying like they do for the race. If there are 43 cars in the race you qualify on the poll you get 43 points you qualify 43 you get 1. If you don't make the top 43 cars you go home. No top 35's, No past champions, this would to me make Nascar a more far sport. Yes I would like to see all the super stars in Nascar do well but Nascar has become all About the $$$$$$$$$$$$$ from all the sponsers. I'm a big Nascar fan but some time I just don't get Nascars view of helping the like guy or the small or1 car teams. Thanks for letting me vent some, and look forward to seeing your response.

Nascar should use the Busch (Nationwide)Series and CraftsmanTruck Series better. They shouldn't let the top 20 drivers race in them. If you look ARCA doesn't let the top 20 drivers in theCup series race.I know this hopes the team get some info but it should be for the up an comer to be the stars of nascars future today. I know you will say the sponsers will not be there then but just look at this . Denny Hamlin Replaced Aric Almoria who was leading the race just because the sponsers wanting Denny in the car. That would be like replacing Jeff Gordon with Robby Gordon or Jimmy Spencer. Both are good drivers but I don't think that would happen.there a lot of Different Racing series That are good series. Maybe Nascar Should Divide into Four areas ie: winston west, north , south, east . just like football, baseball, basketball, then make a playoffs with the top 10 driver from each group in the CHASE for the Cup 10 race and have a points system just them.

Then the rest of thr driver can also race in the different series for the rest of the season. this would like everyone get a chance to race all over the country at tracks that are no in Nascar now or tracks that Nascar doesn't Go to any more. This would make Nascar a more Liked sport.and bring in more and more talent. Do this with the Busch (Nationwide),And Craftsman Trck Series This would give all the driver and teams allover America and the world a chance to race each other. Because you can see Open wheel drivers are here now. And yes put some dirt track racing, road course racing into the mix. If Nascar looking for the best this would bring the best.

I agree with you on the top 35 rule, its not exactly qualifying to me unless you actually have to qualify. I dont know how many times this year that the top 43 cars were not in the field come race time due to the top 35 rule and past champs provs. Its a stupid rule, and it wouldnt bother me at all if Stewart, Johnson, or Gordon missed a couple of races because they couldnt qualify or wrecked during qualifying. What the top 35 rule does is lock new teams out of the first 5 races of the season and makes it harder for them to continue in the sport. Looking back at the years qualifying you can see that the new Toyota teams for the most part would have qualified in almost every race that they were not in on speed if not for the top 35 rule. Its stupid and is only there for the TV guys, and the sponsors.

I think the sponsors like the current system, or the sponsors of the top 35 anyway. Talledega is a bit of an anomaly in that qualifying position doesn't mean much so the big teams concentrated on race setup. The reason all the non-top 35 teams qualified so well is that they set up for qualifying while the regulars set up for the race.
If you force everyone to qualify on time it will probably not change much, they are in the top 35 because they are fast. You will get the situation where some guys will have a bad weekend and miss the race.
Do we really want the situation where coming into Homestead Driver A, lets say JJ, has a 10 point lead on Driver B, lets say JG, for the championship and everyone else is all but out of it. This scenario may play out this year. Now one of them has a problem and doesn't qualify. Championship over before the race begins, do we want that????

Your assumption is that the Top 35 rule was created to protect the big teams. When the rule was created, the teams going home were single car teams. only 40 or so (Often less) full time teams were showing up each week. The rest of the field were part time and development teams. This helped to protect the small teams, especially against field filler teams (teams that showed up and dropped out in the early laps of the race).
Now that there are more that 43 good teams are showing up, the rule is not as fair. If you want the fastest 43 only, what happens when Jeff Gordon or Dale Jr has problems during qualifying? How many fan's will complain if their favorite (Big named) driver fails to make the race?
So the race where Jimmy and Jeff were not allowed to qualify, just send them home?

I agree that they need to get rid of the top 35 in owners points provisionals and let the fastest 43 race, but giving points for qualifying would hurt the teams that don't have the technology that the big teams do. Why do I say this? Think about it--if qualifying meant points, the pressure to qualify would be even greater, and the teams that don't have testing equipment would be unprepared, and likely wreck their cars attempting to qualify.
Bill Davis racing isn't exactly a big money team, and they are doing well enough this season to be thinking about expanding to three cars next year. They do not fall under the so-called protection, but Dave Blaney has been very good at qualifying. A single car driver/owner team, Robby Gordon, also has qualified well without NASCAR help. MWR is a big money team, and they struggeled until recently to qualify. So really, nobody gets extra protection except for that darned provisional.
Qualifying would mean more if they got rid of all the provisionals, including past champions, except for the non-points races.

You said it yourself, Nascar is all about the money and making sponsors happy. Sponsors don't like to stick around for drivers who can't make the field. They already give too many points out, it's ridiculous when someone can win the championship before the end of the season (hence the reason they went to the chase format). This is a big dollar sport. The big teams have the resources, the small teams don't. That is supposed to be part of what makes the Busch series the training ground - they are limited on number of tires, etc to keep costs down.

All the fuss this past week, has been about 2 or 3 driver's who qualified well, but didn't get to race.WHY NOT:Pick [3] teams, that have [4]and[5]cars on it,take each of those teams slowest qualifiers, and if someone can beat that driver's time,HE'S IN !!! No if's,can's,or but's !!! I'm a Matt Kenseth fan
If Matt wreck's during qualifying...OH WELL !!! Chaulk it up as a D.N.F. it happens anyway
