Why does the Catholic Church Teach that the story of Adam and Eve is just fiction and never really happened. Without Original Sin, how can we be sinners? Why would we need Jesus, It doesn't even make any sense.

Let me ask you Catholics, how does it feel to attend a Church that claims they are Christian, Yet calls God and God's word a lie? Can you really call yourself Christian attending a place that calls God's word a lie? How is this not blasphemy, the word you like to use so often?

Why does the Catholic Church continue to add and delete from the Bible. Oh, that's right, they think they are infalable!!!

Well, it should not surprise you they are not following the Bible, this is the case since the Catholic Church started.

Did the Church not say it has no problem embracing evolution also? Do you not read the newspapers? Nice try claming ignorance to these facts.

THE hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church has published a teaching document instructing the faithful that some parts of the Bible are not actually true.

The Catholic bishops of England, Wales and Scotland are warning their five million worshippers, as well as any others drawn to the study of scripture, that they should not expect “total accuracy” from the Bible.

“We should not expect to find in Scripture full scientific accuracy or complete historical precision,” they say in The Gift of Scripture.

The document is timely, coming as it does amid the rise of the religious Right, in particular in the US.

You misunderstand what Catholics believe. We believe the story of Adam and Eve is true but not necessarily factual.

The state of Original Sin surrounds and affects every human being in the world. We do not inherit Original Sin by blood nor are we guilty of it.

The Catholic Church talks about the Fall in this way:

The account of the fall in Genesis chapter 3 uses figurative language, but affirms a primeval event, a deed that took place at the beginning of the history of man. Revelation gives us the certainty of faith that the whole of human history is marked by the original fault freely committed by our first parents.

If we assume that the theory evolution is true, the scenario might happen like this. A manlike being is slowly evolving. At some point God gives these beings a soul

These human beings lived in complete “original” holiness. They loved God with all their heart, with all their soul, and with all their mind. They loved their neighbors as much as they loved themselves.

Then the first human beings disobeyed God, choosing to follow their own will rather than God's will. This was the Original Sin.

Consequently, they lost the grace of original holiness and sin became universally present in the world.

Besides the personal sin of the first human beings, original sin describes the fallen state of human nature, which affects every person born into the world, and from which Christ, the "new Adam," came to redeem us.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 390 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt1art1p7.htm#390

With love in Christ.

A Catholic is free to take Adam and Eve as either literal or firgurative. So long as the Catholic understands how said account explains the Fall of Man & the institution of Original Sin, there is no reason to "cherry pcik".

<>

And what exactly is this lie you speak of. You make the claim, but you do not provide evidence. You are either unable or unwilling to. It makes no sense for you to be able to, and not do it, so I have no choice to assume you simply can't prove your claim.

<>

Again, there is this claim of a lie, and now this claim of blasphemy. Again, no examples to substantiate either claim. This is not very intellectually honest of you.

What has the Church added to the Bible? What has it taken away? Another claim with no evidence to back it up. Need I say more?

Yes, they hope the faithful will support the church as best they can. The Roman Catholic Church is the biggest private charity in the world and the USA. They don't get that way from no one donating money to continue the good works of the church. On the other hand, they do not look at your IRS statements like the Mormons do. If you are Mormon, you better give at least 10 percent. No temple recommend or benefits if you do not. They will hound you. The Catholic Church also teaches there are going to be times where you cannot afford a penny as you need to care for your family and pay your mortgage. They understand this stuff.

I have asked the same thing myself. In fact when you really research the issue you will find the the catholic church has not right to even exist as a church at all. Jesus built the church on Himself and not on Peter as the catholics claim. In the Gospels, Jesus has Just given a new name to Simon and called him "Peter" Jesus and the Father have dozens of references to themselves as the "Rock" Throughout both the old and New Testaments and here Jesus was referring to Himself as the rock and not Peter. Why would anyone of sane mind believe that the Lord would establish His church on common man who is on earth for only 70 years. What would happen when the man dies? The church would die with him also. Little wonder the Catholic church does not encourage bible study as that would blow away their doctrine. The Catholic church is nothing but a farce and the Lord will destroy it during the tribulation for the reasons given in Revelation Ch.17 V1-9

Footnote: The catholic church just can't get it right at all; apparently they claim baptism is a means of cleansing from original sin. The only thing that will cleanse us from any sin, original or otherwise is the blood of Christ. baptim is for born again believers only and anyone who is not saved is not a candidate for baptism.
This seems to be the main problem with the catholic church, Its followers simply will not get their noses into the Bible and study out these issues but rather they will simply follow what they are told by some priest who apparently has next to no grasp of the Scriptures himself.

Nice try but I’ve seen this before and the attack is baseless.

The author is obviously an anti-Catholic nut trying to pin the Church as being non-biblical, which is complete garbage. The bishops were stating what they’ve always stated: the plain truth. The bible is not a history book. It’s not a science book or a math book. It’s a book of faith. It’s a text that’s intended to teach us of our origin with God, our faith in Him and the work of salvation and love that He undertook for us.

That’s it. Plain and simple.

Add and delete from the bible? Try again please. I’d suggest you study the history of the bible and how it came to be then come back and tell me who added or took away.

A) Holy Mother Church teaches that we do not know who actually was the first truly human being to know God and to choose to disobey His strictures. She accepts the story of Adam and Eve as the truth in so far as SOMEBODY did something really, REALLY naughty way back when and caused God to withdraw both the supernatural and the preternatural gifts He had originally given mankind, leaving them prey to their animal nature (also called the stain of Original Sin).

B) Don't be more ignorant than you can help. We NEVER call God a liar, either by commission or by omission or by inference.

C) And YES, in matters of faith and morals His Holiness HAS to be infallible. You gotta have somebody you can trust to give you the straight dope on those subjects and frankly, if Scripture alone were sufficient there wouldn't be thousands of Protestant sects each claiming sole right to the truth, now would there? (See also Matthew 16:19).

D) For Wizzle: The Canon is 72. Martin Luther tossed out 6 OT books and parts of 2 others. He would dearly have loved to dump Hebrews as well, but Melancthon convinced him that folks wouldn't stand still for bumping NT books, so he left instructions to his priests NOT to preach from it, to ignore it, hoping folks would forget it existed.

E) About the historical and scientific inerrancy of Scripture: We learned our lesson from Galileo. Pity the fundamentalists haven't.

The Catholic church allows Catholics to explore the idea that though divinely inspired it might not be a literal account of one man and one woman. What is important is to realize that man was created without sin and was to live eternal. Through the faults of man and free choice, sin came into the world.

Catholics are very adament teachers of original sin. Catholics baptise infants to cleanse them from original sin. This is a very basic Catholic teaching, you have probably been talking to someone who is very uninformed about the Catholic faith. Sadly, it was probably a Catholic since many don't know some of the basic teachings of our faith.

The Catholic bible hasn't changed since its inception in 382 AD at the council of Rome.

Original Sin originated with the Catholics idiot.

They do not call gods word a lie, thats a lie on YOUR part.

Protestants continually add and delete from the bible, or there wouldn't be so bloody many Denominations of it.

Why do Protestants lie their heads off so their religion looks better? You do realize it only makes you look like a complete fool, right?

Boy did you get it wrong. Catholics believe in Adam and Eve, but as a man translated Gods word catholics do not believe that only one of over 300 translations from the original writings (and the most flawed) translation is right.

Do me a favor. Step down off your soap box for just a minute, clean out your ears and listen.....

The Bible clearly states that Jesus spoke in parrable, so WHY would anyone interpert the Bible literally? It's not a How-To rule bok for life. It isn't mean to be taken literally. It's meant as a general guide concerning faith and morality. The stories aren't as important as their MESSAGES. That's the whole point, not what it says, but what you're supposed to learn from it. It's like telling your children the story of the boy who cried wolf. You're not teaching them to never cry wolf, you're using the story to teach a lesson. Get it? The Bible is the same way.

And for the record, let me ask you....How cant he story of Adam and Eve really even be true? If all of mankind came from them, then the first few generations were extremely closely inbred. And we all know what happens when siblings pro-create. Has any of this ever dawned on you?
