I think they provided the focus and direction I have in my life. I think they trained me to take pride in myself, my appearance, my country and my Corps. It taught me to focus on a long term solution to a problem and plan a strategy to achieve that solution. It taught me to survive in any adverse situation.
It taught me to be a leader while taking into account the needs and requirements of my troops. It taught me to be more of a man, a husband, a father, and a citizen then I might have ever achieved on my own.
It taught me to stand proud in everything I do.

They are without a doubt what they advertise themselves to be. "The Few, The Proud, The Marines'
The USMC has a palpable sense of self and tradition that few other military organizations in the world have. Their "brand" is perhaps the most known and identifiable worldwide. People around the world know that the "Eagle, Globe, and Anchor" are the emblem and bardge of the USMC, they might not know their own country's military insignia, but they know the Marines.
Why? because they have been everywhere where man lives and conflict happens. because of their tradition of military excellence, and humanitarian expertise around the globe.
When Americans abroad are threatened, the first call the president makes is to the Marine Corps. This is a factual statement, because the USMC is the only military force that is deployable by the president without consultation to the other branches of government.
The Marine Corps reputation is so powerful, that in the last Gulf War (USA and coalition forces vx. Saddam Husssein after the invasion of Kuwait) The mere threat of the USMC pulling a amphibious landing forced Saddam to station the majority of his forces to counter this threat, while the US Army and coalition forces did an end around through the desert. So the USMC won the war without fighting the majority of the battle.
There are other excellent military forces: Delta Force, the Rangers, US Navy Seals, Spetznatz, The British SAS and Royal Marines, the French Foreign Legion...but none of them have the tradition and recognition of the US Marine Corps.

My guy has been in the Army, Marine Corps and then the reserves Navy since it was closer to home. After seeing all these services close up and personal, he came to the conclusion the only group that had real discipline was proud of their uniform and what they stand for is the United States Marine Corps.

Sgt Taz...They may be a department of the Navy but they are the MEN'S DEPARTMENT.......
Marines are the most respected of all the branches. A soldier or sailor or airman does not take offense to being called a Marine by accident. A Marine however will correct you...loudly.....in public.....and with great pride in being called MARINE.
I grew up in a military town and had all branches around. I dated at least one from each branch (except Air Force they are too soft....pretty boys). Of them all I married the Marine. He has a sense of personal pride and honor that the other branches just can replicate. He is respectful to me himself and all others he is in contact with. And lastly....DAMN he looks good in those Blues.....yumm.

I think it's a very proud institution that generally does a great job of defending us. The Corps does a good job of instilling pride and honor in most of the men and women who enlist. There's always a few who don't live up to its standards, of course, but not many.
And for the record, I was never in the Corps. But I know several who were, and I have nothing but respect for them for volunteering and serving.

USMC is the most successful government entity we have.
It is where the green collar warrior class, get their education.
Those with a warrior spirit end up in the Marine Corps Infantry.

Are they any greater than the most dedicated soldier, sailor or airman? That depends who you ask.
I must admit something in their training and environment produces individualswith a great amount of pride in their jobs and themselves.
