For instance, my boyfriend just text me 'my head is going to explode'. I assume this is a euphemism for 'my goodness, I'm so tired from studying, I have a headache'. What do you think?

That's what it sounds like to me too. ..or someone has his head in a vice grip.

It's hard to read intent because when you read a text message or a book, magazine, whatever where you read something someone is quoted as saying, you imagine it the only way you know how and that is if you yourself said it. You speak differentlythan others so many times intent, tone and meaning are misunderstood.

I hope you didn't take it to mean it's something to do with you :).

Or it could be a humourous comment implying that his head is so full of information, it could burst.

It isn't quite clear.

But a comment like that isn't just for text messaging - people say that sort of thing, too.

I think that if you find it difficult to read a text message then you can be pretty sure of at least one of two things - either you`re a complete Moran who can`t read or the person who sent the message is a complete Moran who can`t type !.

definitely, just like a chat program, you don't know if someone is being sarcastic because you can't hear their tone of voice.
