I am wondering how a 6-7 month old kitten should be acting the morning after taking kitten for his first shots at the vet? He got two shots, distemper and another, a worm pill and advantage for fleas....This was his first vet visit and his first shots....We adopted him about a month or so ago.

My sister is a vet. She told me when I brought my kitten in that it would be normal for the cat to act a little sick the next day. She compared it to a person getting the flu shot and then feeling a little under the weather.

Sometimes animals do go a bit quiet and sleep a bit for a day or two after vaccination. Remember they've just had some of the actual disease injected in to them, so their immune system is hard at work, it must be tiring. If you are worried though, pick up the phone to a vet - vaccines do cause reactions in a small percentage of animals. Things to watch out for are diarrhoea, vomiting, rashes, trembling. Always consult a vet if worried.

He will probably crash for the day. Will be acting a bit more chipper tomorrow. I have 5 cats. They almost always spend the day sleeping after a multi-shot visit to the vets. The shots take them down as does the stress. Leave him alone and let him rest. He will be fine.

He should be fine, probably feeling a bit off with you for allowing someone to stick needles in him! Certainly worth doing, you need to have his shots if you want to place him in a cattery when you go on holiday. Good on you for looking after your pet properly.
