Well, I sorta had the same problem. What caused mine was -- I have a habit of fiddling with things. The water level wasn't high enuff, so I adjusted the pressure switch for higher. I musta set it too high, because I smelled damp, stagnant water all the time then, near the washer, and that was when it was off.

I lowered the water level, and after a few days, the problem was gone.

You are supposed to leave the lids OPEN at all times (except when washing), you no! :) That is to let it dry out inside. :)

Most washer have a bag like thing to hold overflow water. That was what my trouble was, I think. The overflow water has no place to go, it just lays there. They do that so water doesn't overflow onto the motor.

Hope this helped. ~Cindy! :)

P.S. Dont forget to always leave the lid open! It lets it dry out. That cuts way down the stale smell, by letting it dry out; and it also helps prevent rust! The lady next door's washer is RUSTED inside the basket, because she won't leave the lid up!

My front loading washer (GE) has a filter hidden behind the front panel - I had to take off screws and the panel to get to it (not a great design). If you haven't cleared that filter, it might be holding something that is growing mold.

Additionally, if your drain tube has a valley that might hold water that gets stagnant too - it would clear w/ the first dumping of the washer, but it might bring the smell out w/ it.

Check the drain that the washer dumps into - mine was a little icky and I put an enzyme treatment down it to help.

I'm not a plumber but I hope this helped.

Hi
If the machine is in use it can not be stagnant water - unless your watersupply is poor. If you are connected to an official networs i.e. city system then this is extremely unlikely.
What's around your machine? How does you machin look underneath?
When the machine runs the elctrical motor underneath or behind the machine starts to circulate the air in the room - if it is dirty under it (mine is) then it can smell of old water/mold etc..

The problem is you are only using low temperature Wash's, you need to do a 60degree wash on a regular basis, plus the type of powder/liquid you are using doesn't help and worse of all is fabric conditioner. Try running soda Crystal through the machine on a 60+ deg wash, do this on a regular basis and this will help solve your problem.

have starred what i believe is the right answer. I may'st add however that keeping the pump running during wash cycle - and not reserving just for spinning - can make this happen. Soda can also impart a smell at times.
