I am on medication and suffer from chronic, long term, clinical depression. I live in a small town and feel I need a suitable support group, particulaly during acute episodes. Sometimes Lifeline is not an option, and I thought that maybe a reputable support group may help me. There are so many sites on the net I don`t know where to start, or who to trust.

Hi there, beyondblue is a fantastic site for someone who suffers from anything from depression, anxiety disorders, ocd or anything like that.
They are fantastic, you can call and chat to someone whenever you feel the need.
Or just email me :)
I am and have been clinicaly depressed for over 7 years now.
If you want someone to chat to just email me and I will try and help.
You are not alone.
I am a complete stranger but, I am also someone who understands completely the loneliness and isolation that depression can bring. :)

Hi. I am an Australian but not living there now. MoodGym is a good one to start with (it is hosted by a uni in Canberra). I have attached a link to some online support sites. Go to the section which mentions online self-help. I haven't checked all of them but the ones I have were helpful. I never found Lifeline helpful. Sometimes counsellors just don't cut it - psychotherapy is in order! If you ever need to chat you can send me a private email. Good luck and take care, OK.

Hello...

I'd like to invite you to join our mental health forums (listed below)... we are a very small group, ranging in ages from teens to 50's.

We are also very caring and supportive... I think the smallness of our group contributes to a "family" atmosphere.

We have one member from Australia, as well, even though the mental health site is based in the United States... we also have members from the United Kingdom.

Our little group can is not only supportive, but we can talk about any topic we like, from what we'vd done today to sharing pictures and stories about our pets. We also like to have fun.

I hope you will go over and take a look around, see what you think?

I am "choey" on the boards... take care and if you opt out of trying our forums, i sure hope you will find what you're looking for, hon!

Hi, another Aussie here! Have had suffered depression on and off for 2 years and currently have an Anxiety Disorder.

I have used Moodgym and found the online self-help very good. I strongly recommended that one.

BeyondBlue is an excellent resource.

For Anxiety Disorders - Anxiety Disorders Assoc. of Vic is excellent, especially their forums (I'm sure it will cover depression too).
