I don't know if this makes any sense......

I was reading information on HPV and now I'm extremley nervous thinking "what If" either me or my boyfriend have it. Even though I have no reason to be thinking that. (Even though I know there are NO symptoms). What are some reasons why/how people get HPV (males & females). I can go for a Pap to my doctor but my boyfriend doesn't have insurance! What can he do? I'm 18 and he's 19.

There is no test to detect HPV in men. So, unless he shows symptoms of the virus, like genital warts, it's basically impossible for him to know for sure if he has it.

You can get a pap smear to see if there are any abnormalities on your cervix caused by HPV. A pap smear is NOT a test for HPV, it ONLY detects abnormalities on the cervix which can be caused by HPV. There is also a HPV test. It pretty much detects "high risk" HPV DNA. You'll have to ask your doctor about getting this done.

Don't worry about it too much! Just visit your doctor, get a pap smear done and you should be just fine! Pap smears are the best thing women can get to detect any abnormalities on the cervix caused by HPV. With yearly pap smears, abnormalities can usually be caught early before they turn into pre-cancerous cells or cervical cancer. Good luck!

***Also, the person above mentioned chickenpox being caused by HPV, that's not true. Chickenpox is herpes. Herpes simplex virus 3 is responsible for chickenpox.

Ok take a deep breath. Don't be scared. There are a lot of different strains of HPV and most of them are relatively harmless.

HPV doesn't automatically mean warts, or cancer. Chicken pox are caused by a strain of HPV. I'm sure you had them already.

If you go to the doctor they will most likely not test you for HPV because you would probably test positive. Younger women have it more commonly than older women...

Really you don't have much to be afraid of. It can go away on it's own without any problems, and if it does infact cause cervical cancer, you will catch it early with yearly exams and be treated immediately...

Don't stress it's not that bad. There is no cure for it btw.

I used to have a depo provera contraceptive injection every 11 weeks and they use a thicker needle into the top of the buttock. I hated it but it was always worth it. A nurse i had a few times used to tell me to wiggle my toes at the same time she was about to give the injection and i could never feel it as it was so distracting. Maybe discuss this with the nurse. Plus I wish this injection was around when i was younger. As I know i have one of the many hpv. tmw I am returning to hospital for the 2nd time as i have severe cell abnormalities on my cervix. Hopefully this time it will be fully treated. You just don't know how lucky your are that you have a vaccine available, so don't be scared and take advantage of this great saviour. p.s I would rather have your injection than the one i'm going to receive in my cervix (anaesthetic) --agghhhhh

I got clinically diagnosed with herpes simplex virus (type 2) about 4 years back, when I was still attending college and had a stupid one-night stand. I realize a lot of young women say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a massive mistake that one time and all of a sudden I felt like I was going to have to live with the implications for my entire life. The worst part was feeling I could never date other men again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone who has sores around her private parts? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/GK6FD everything got better.

Not only was I able to eradicate all traces of the hsv from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so blessed to write that just last week, in front of everyone in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me! This program provided me the chance to be happy and experience true love again. Now I hope that I can help others by sharing this story.

I'm not really sure there's much your boyfriend can do about it at the moment. For you, you can get the HPV vaccine. It's three shots over the course of six months. It won't prevent all strains of HPV, but right now they think it'll prevent the more common ones that have been linked to cervical cancer. The shots burn like crazy when you get them, but it's worth it if you can prevent cancer!

You can go to a clinic in your area. Planned Parenthood is a good one. I think that they offer paps and free testing based on your financial status if your really worried about it. Depending on if your a student or not to, you also get a discount.

If you live in the US, there are free health clinics in every county.
