Here in this verse we are told to seek judgement.
Isa 1:17a "Learn to do well; seek judgment...."

Here in these verses there are actually two judgments.
The first judgment deals with ourselves.
The second judgment deals with our Bretheren.
These verses here in Matthew 7:1-5 warn us not to judge as a hypocrite would.
Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

7:2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

7:4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam [is] in thine own eye?

7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Here Jesus give a clear discription of judgment.Even going before the whole church with a matter. If they fail to here the church they are then excommunacated.
Matthew 18:15 "Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

18:16 But if he will not hear [thee, then] take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.

18:17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell [it] unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican."

Here is a warning for those who refuse not to judge.
Eze 33:5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.

Eze 33:6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take [any] person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; {but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand.}

Eze 3:18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and {thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way}, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; {but his blood will I require at thine hand.}

I heard this answer from someone who'd studied theology:

The Gospels are telling us that we are not supposed to judge the state of a person's soul, that is, whether that person is going to Hell or Heaven. (This is a great temptation.) Only God knows this.

We can judge the person's actions, and say they are wrong.

The current idea that we shouldn't be "judgemental" has gone way too far, so far that some people think they shouldn;t be criticized for anything they do.

Naturally we should be able to say that some behavior is wrong.

May God bless you all.

If the Lord is speaking something to us regarding a certain matter in a brother or sister then we need to be clear on how to proceed in a way that is not our way but the Lord's way.

This matter of judging is very sensitive.
There were situations in the Church at Corinth where brother Paul had to judge the situation (1 Corinthians 5:1-5and even admonished the brothers there to eventually pray that the sinning brother be prayed for and given over to satan as a way to deal with his flesh YET that the brother will spirit will be saved.
Brother Paul judged this matter in spirit. This was not according to the dictates of his soul but his spirit man that was One with God
He also judged in the Name oFJesus Christ.

There is also the balance where we need to learn to cover one another in their weekness in prayer. Some go through a time of weakness and it is our prayer and not our judgement that will give the Lord a way to rescue that brother or sister.

Love covers a multitude of sins.

Here are a few more:

"Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgement."--John 7:24

"Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life?"--1 Cor. 6:2-3 (see v. 1-6; also 5:9-13)

I recall when he saved the adulteress from being stoned saying 'You without sin cast the first stone' thus saving her life. I take that as a 'no' when it comes to judgment. Wasn't there also something about a splinter in someone else's eye when you have a 'plank in your own'. I do not judge others. To do so would put me in a position of being better than them. It is hurtful and you cannot get inside another persons life unless you sit and speak with them, listen and be compassionate.

I think the "judge not lest ye be judged" is pretty much a do unto others thing. We don't want to be judged harshly and so we should not judge others harshly. The rest is concerning judging ourselves and making sure that we are right before we go around worrying about someone else. That will be a full time job, so there ought not to be any judging of others going on.

This is quite in keeping with the tendency for people who don't believe the bible to try and miss-use one verse they don't understand to try and protect their behaviour from any kind of scrutiny. The new testament also says judge righteous judgement and let every man be slow to judge. The whole thou shalt not judge part refers to judging a person moral worth which only God who can see our motivations can know. But of course we should judge behaviour. That should be obvious. Would anyone knowingly allow a pedophile to babysit their kids? Even if he quoted thou shalt not judge? Edit: One last thought. How could we avoid sin ourselves if we aren't allowed to recognize and diffentiate between good and evil.

The final judgment is the Fathers
for those that think that we are not to judge. How do you decide what is right and what is wrong? you have to judge between the two. come on stop being afraid of everything.
remember the person that was afraid if they tried to increase the penny that God had given them that they might lose it so they did nothing with it then, all they had to offer back was only that which had been given to them.
That is not enough, you must work in faith or it will not grow and that which does not grow dies

Exactly. Plus there are these verses:

1 Corinthians 6:2-3 - Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!

Personally I think Satan is trying to trick us into not judging as we should.

Most people that make this statement have no idea what the word Judge means. There is a big difference in be judgemental and stating a fact that you know is true. Jesus tells us very plan that, by there fruits we shall know them

The simple answer is that they are ignorant of the Word of God.
The word judge, in the Bible has a much wider range of meanings than most people realize.

In the Old Testament there are four different Hebrew words that were tranlated by the one English word judge.

In the New Testament there are five different Greek words that have been translated by the one English word judge.

The two meanings of the word judge that are most often confused, are to discern, and to condemn.

The passage you quoted in Isaiah is talking about discernment, The passage you quoted in Matthew is warning about condemning others which we are not qualified to do.
