I love animals and I want to protect them. I LOVE eating meats. I think it will be almost impossible to stop eating meats. Any suggestions on how I should start and tips on being a vegetarian?

Start slow; I gave up red meat, then chicken, then fish. Try meat substitutes- there are some good chicken and beef ones. You'll probably want to get some vegetarian cookbooks so you can try lots of different foods. Good luck!

I suggest to watch some documentary’s and read up on the subject but I will warn you the videos are very graphic and mad me very sick but it will help you to let go of you attrition to meat, that’s what helped me…...

I just recently decide to become a vegetarian I’m 23 and have eating meat all my life and I guess like most people I just shut out the disturbing facts of animal cruelty because I was selfish and unwilling to change. I recently watched a Documentary called Earthling witch traumatized me and I can not even look at meat any more. I just find it so crazy that we can shut these things out I mean I knew these kind of things happen but subconsciously I shut it out. We as people need to look around us and realize that we have no right to take a life or yet decide witch life if more important we are all living creachers of this earth…. We do not have to eat meat to survive we have a choice.

I took it in steps:
1.When I decided I was going vegetarian, I waited a month
then dropped red meats, meat from cows, pigs, deer, etc.. anything that wasn't considered poultry or fish.
2.Another month later, I dropped poultry
3. And finally, a month later, I dropped fish
Some people take longer steps than this, maybe making each step a matter of years.
Vegetarianism is both a dietary choice and a lifestyle. I'm still fairly new at this so I'm learning the do's and dont's as I go.
I respect your want to go veggie. Good luck!

Work your way into it. You would be suprised how many delicious vegetarian foods there are out there, all you have to do is find the right recipies, cookbooks, resturants, etc. First try out some vegetarian food, and learn how to make it. Slowly replace, maybe one meal every few days with a totally vegetarian meal, and as you work the number of meals up you can continue to learn new meals and see if you can get enough protien in your diet. Eventually you can have all of your meals vegetarian, maybe while still eating fish, geletin, etc, and then slowly cut those out.

Another bit of advice would be to take some of your favorite recipies that have meat in them and replace them. I love tofu/cheese manicotti, for example. Replace the meat and see if you can still enjoy some of your meals.

It's great that you are willing to work this hard for the animals, and I congragulate you on that. Remember not to tell yourself that it is impossible, because as cheesy as this sounds, the self-talk is part of what makes this hard for you. Good luck!

just remember how much you want to protect animals.
and, try to eat more protein so you won't miss any nutritional values that are in meat.
slowly cut back and each time take less meat but more of something else. eventually you won't even want meat anymore.
but, if you still can't get over not having the taste of meat... they make tofu and soy that taste almost exactly like meat, that'll help if you desperately feel like you need meat someday.

the best advice i can give you though is to always remember why you want to be a vegetarian.

You will have to be in the right frame of mind to become vegetarian. If you're adament about loving animals...but also "loving" to eat meat it may not be that easy. Its not impossible we (my family) have done it for 7 years. You can make a lot of good things, but also dining out can be easy. Pizza, pastas, sandwiches there is so much to eat. Find a good magazine like Vegetarian Times. It gives good recipes, but also has a good section with write ins from people who can give you good ideas.

You should slowly start trying vegetarian products. To find out what brand you like. Boca, Morning Star, etc . Try the different soy products and cook a meal using only vegetables. If you still find it to hard, Don't feel bad, you can still support animals. By,continuing to love and protect them. You don't have to become a zealot for a cause. Don't let people pressure you. Take your time, if vegetarianism is for you. It will happen.

There are a great many "faux meat" products out there by brands like Quorn, Gardenburger, Lightlife, Boca, Morningstar and Yves, among others. They are generally easy to prepare, and a good place to start for people who think that they are craving meat. Just remember that you are not craving the meat itself, but rather the texture and taste of it which can be easily replicated and often outperformed! Good luck to you.

If you think it will impossible, then it will. I used to think I couldn't give up meat, but one day I got so disgusted with meat, I decided to go vegetarian.

There are tons of analogues out there that are just as tasty as what they imitate. Amy's Kitchen makes a ton of delicious foods--frozen foods, veggie burgers, pizzas, soups, pasta sauces. Lightlife makes tempeh and tons of analogues as well. Tofurkey makes veggie sausages and deli slices. Yves makes veggie deli slices, crumbles, and mini bowl meals (in the refrigerator case). Watch out for rennet in cheese and gelatin, which finds its way into a heck of a lot of products.

Check out www.vegweb.com for recipes and links on vegetarian living.

Saying you hate tofu is like saying you hate cake flour. It takes practice, but you'll get the hang of cooking it eventually. Try making your own seitan instead of buying the packaged stuff; the packaged stuff is overpriced and not very good.

You can do it! Good luck!
