I started the truck and pulled out of the driveway 3 feet and it just died! Now sometimes it will start and sometimes it won't. What could be the problem? I just put a new fuel pump in!

The air intake plug was unattached and air intake hose was off, so I re-attached,and removed neg. wire from battery to reset brain. It ran fine and then did it again.

I noticed that on most won't start questions everyone says fuel pump, or plugs. with the new in-tank pumps that can be Very pricey.
fuel pump failure could be the cause in the case on no-computer controlled carb motors but not computer controlled
Check the fuel PRESSURE, then try this
It could be the ignition control module, it controls everything between the computer and the sensors (spark, fuel, speed, idle, etc) it failing makes it harder to start, stalls, then it goes out completely, if other sensors are bad they will show up and can cause this part to fail. so take it off, take it to autozone they can check it for you for free. my GMC sierra 5.7 pickup sputtered for a few days, after it started to get hard to start, then boom i was stuck 45 miles from home. I took it out, had it checked, it was bad, changed it now it starts right up, no stumbling. I now try to keep a spare in the glove box (from the junk yard/had it checked at autozone too) so if it happens again i can just change it and boogie on

When it doesn't start you have to be prepared to diagnose this. You have to check for PCM codes/good data, spark output, and fuel pressure. A lot of times these trucks had a ton of corrosion build up on the spark plug wires, coil tower, and dist. cap towers. Just pull them off one at a time to inspect. IF you find corrosion, replace everything that has it on it.

When in doubt look at the last thing that you did!

Possibly got dirt in the fuel line. Was anything done downstream of the filter. If not just change the filter. Also check for fuel leaks, kinked pipes, etc.

first check for trouble codes that should pinpoint the problem but sounds like the timing could be off a little causing your gmc to idle low and stall. id check for trouble codes before buying more parts that u posibly do not need

do you know if you have to fuel pumps. the one you changed and the one that is located in the rt rear undercarriage. ask where you bought the fuel pump, or ask the what is causing the jimmy to shut off.
