Our dog is vegan.
it's just as easy for a dog to be a vegan as it is a human. Just ask your vet.
Cats are a little trickier, but we have 3 vegan cats, whom we feed specially-formulated vegan cat food.

Vegetarian dog food is NOT a new concept as I remember my mother looking after a veggie dog about 20 years ago. There is a veggie dog range but I can't think of the name at the moment.
If you are interested in making sure that the meat your dog eats is organic or ethically sound as meat can be then why not buy the meat yourself & cook it for your pet rather than tinned food? I feed my Frenchie on brown rice (fills them up for longer) with veggies and meat (normally chicken or lamb). She has allergies so I was advised to put her on a natural diet and it really works! All it takes is a bit of time and effort plus she likes it better than tinned food that is full of eyelids and snouts!!

There is a company called AmiCat that makes vegan food for cats and dogs. Don't remember the website, but if you google the name you'll find it. You can order online.
I used to live with a cat who we fed Amicat and she loved it. And it is 100% healthy. Our cat was done some blood tests after eating vegan food for over a year and she was very healthy

actually my veterinarian graduated with honors from her univeristy ( just telling you so you can see shes most likely reliable) and she said that while cats cannot have a diet free from meats, dogs actually can, and there are vegetarian dog foods that will provide everything your dog needs. as for your question about how the dogs are treated, i think it would be best to ask a vet because they would most likely be better versed in the laws that have to be upheld for animal welfare, or they may have some insight about certain dog food companies.

I wouldn't advise this unless you're serious about maintaining a good balance for your dog, but it's possible for dogs to be healthy, rounded vegetarians (though not vegans). They are actually omnivores, like us, so it is perfectly safe for them, as long as you are careful about making sure they get enough protein in their altered diets. The oldest living dog, thirty-ish I believe, is an almost lifelong vegetarian.
(Adviso, this CANNOT be done with cats, which are carnivores through and through.)

lmfao.. no such product and there will never be.. honestly.
your dog's not vegan.. your dog is ok with it. you have to just deal with the very old school of making products that companies have been relying on for over a century.
i doubt this will change any time soon. even the organic industry is suffering due to greedy companies who put a label that says organic but the product isn't.
and there's no such thing as free range.. (unless you get your own livestock) and no such thing as vegan friendly (over 60% of the items contain dairy and other meat biproducts...) and when the item makes such astounding and perfect claims do put that item under scruteny.. because unfortunately it's just a scam.
no company is going to put up more money than it has to on a system that's very expensive and isn't willing to change their system for it... that's why many organic companies are going belly up... people aren't dumb... there's a difference.
so.. have fun and time with your dog instead of worrying over something that you and i will not see a change in.... this lifetime.
no food item is treated with respect.. that even includes the vegetables.
:D

I did a little research for you...give this a try...
http://www.karmaorganicpet.com/products/default.asp?id=1503
Try finding a food that is at least organic...it may be harder to find free range, but the link I gave you said their chicken formula is free range and organic (and chickens are further down on my sympathy list as compared to lamb or beef which can also be found in dog food).
Here's another good source: http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/products/Raw-Advantage-Organic-Beef-Vegetables/139024.aspx Good luck!

I'm not sure, but I would guess that since Paul Newman has organic pet foods that they would also be aimed at being cruelty-free.
