I would imagine that with a chest infection there is some inflammation of your chest area and that maybe has caused the blood. I often get a nose bleed when I have a cold - probably because when you constantly blow your nose you will maybe rupture tiny blood vessels. I would give NHS direct a call for some reassurance. I expect that when you have taken the antibiotics for a day or so, this will disappear.

Hey Ladybug- sorry you're feeling bad. There's not a good time for this, but especially not during exams! Whether your chest pain is from bronchitis, pneumonia, or pleurisy, a good round of antibiotics would probably help you. There should be someone on call at your doctor's office. I would give them a call and tell them your situation. They may be willing to call you in something. If they're not willing, go to a nearby pharmacy and ask which cough medicine would be the best for you. At least you can treat the symptoms until your exam is over tomorrow. Also, remember to drink plenty of fluids! If you start experiencing any shortness of breath, do go to the emergency room tonight. Hope you feel better soon!

it is normal if you are coughing a lot you may have just tore at one of the delicate bloodvessels that are in your lungs, the blood would probably be bright red and small amounts. Unfortunatley because you are constantly straining your lungs/bronchioles this can happen. Keep an eye on it if you still have it in a few days get it checked. If there is a lot of blood, go to dr's again.

If you have been coughing a lot you can burst tiny blood vessels in your upper respiratory tract causing bleeding which looks worse because its mixed with the phlehm, if it looks bright that's probably what it is but if its dark, almost coffee colour like coffee grounds see your Dr again.
Hope you feel better soon.

This sounds pretty serious. The first thing I thought of was tuberculosis; I certainly hope you don't have that. Get yourself checked by a doctor immediately.

depends on the amount and the color. you might have just ruptured a small vessel coughing. if you have a larger amount of frank red blood, you need to go to the ER.
