I was tested at my school and my results came back by e-mail. It says I had the Herpes Select Type-2 test. The results were "Negative/Normal." Does this mean I do not have herpes at all or just that I don't have HSV-2????

Thank you so much for your responses!
I realize what HSV1 is, what I would really like to know is whether I have HSV1. Does the Type-2 test also mean I am negative for HSV1 or is it only applicable to HSV2.
Why didn't they test me for both? Seems odd. Is there no blood test for HSV1?

Herpes simplex type 2 is negative.. is a good thing. The STD is caused mainly by Herpes Simplex 2
Means you have not been exposed to the herpes simplex type 2 virus. HSV type 1 causes the commly known cold-sore or fever blister.
However, since this virus (both HSV1 and HSV 2) are so contagious...having direct contact with someone that is positive with open sores (oral or genital) can cause you to become infected.
HSV1 and 2 are sort of sister viruses. They are closely related, but develop differently. If the test was specific to type 2, then you are negative for type 2. Doesnt necesarily mean that you are negative for type 1. Type 2 is the one you REALLY don't want.
Hope that helps!

I got clinically diagnosed with the herpes simplex virus (type 2) about six years ago, when I was still attending college and had a stupid one-night stand. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone that has sores around her you-know-what? But since a friend shared this video everything changed https://tr.im/curesHerpes2o15Nd6A
Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the hsv from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to begin dating once more. I even met the man of my dreams. This method provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience real love. Now I want to enable you too by sharing this with the whole World.

Genital herpes is usually caused by herpes simplex virus 2. So, if you tested negative for that then it's a good thing. It doesn't sound like they tested you for herpes simplex virus 1 though which can also cause genital herpes, but usually causes cold sores (oral herpes). About 75 - 80% of the world has cold sores. It's very common.
If you want to know if you have herpes simplex virus 1 then you'll have to get tested for it. The tests used to detect herpes simplex virus can ONLY detect if you have the antibodies for either HSV1 or HSV2. They CAN'T tell you where on your body it affects (genital or mouth/lips).
Also, the first person to answer this question said that canker sores are contagious and not to kiss someone who has them - that's not true. Canker sores and cold sores (oral herpes) are NOT the same thing. Canker sores usually appear on the inside of the mouth on the cheeks, gums, inside the lips, on the tongue, etc. Canker sores are NOT contagious and are usually caused by stress, eating hot/spicy food, accidently biting your tongue or cheek, etc. Cold sores ARE contagious and are caused by the herpes simplex virus (either HSV1 or HSV2). These sores usually appear on the outside of the mouth and on the outside of the lips.
Good luck and take care!

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.

First let me explain that there are two types of Herpes. Herpes Type-1 is usually thought of as canker sores in your mouth. Herpes Type-2 is generally thought of as the STD, genital herpes. While they can be transferred from one part of the body to the other, generally their typings are correct.
Therefore, I would interpret your Negative/Normaltestresults to mean that you do not have Herpes Type-2, so you do not have genital herpes.
But if you ever have a canker sore, or the person you are with have a canker sore, I would refrain from any oral/genital contact.
