I know that many Protestants are aware of the Catholic ideas, and just don't agree with the theology. I understand and respect that, but what I am targeting in this question is the needless hate by protestants of percieved Catholic ideas that do not even exist! There are too many misconceptions of the Catholic faith by people that don't even understand it. Or if they, moreless believe something they think the Catholic church does is evil when, in reality, we do not do it and hold the same exact beliefs as them! On one hand it cracks me up at how stupid they are, but it also makes me want to spread the undebatable truth about what Catholicism truly is, so that my Church won't suffer the harshe persecution it has for the past many years.

If you have any REASONS why you or other Protestants disagree with Catholicism, print them here and I will correct you or reason with you.

P.S. I know athiests feel & frankly I don't give a damn.

To the people who said that Catholics "preach lies" & "don't read the Bible", you really need to do your research. That's the whole reason I added this question!!! We DO read the Bible, in fact, the guys who wrote the New Testament were, guess what, Catholic! Also, if you would read our Catechism, then you would certainly realize the overwealming majority of our teachings are the exact same, or at least very similar to the views of most protestants...

2 MISCONCEPTIONS!!!

Kait,
I just want you to know, first of all, that all Catholic teachings derived from the Bible. Also, I said SOME Protestants hate the Catholic faith, maybe not you, but I know some do hate my religion, even though they may not hate me as a person. See what I mean?

Statues are nothing more than mere reminders of what Jesus did for us and/or what the Saints did for Him. The reason we believe in the Holy Trinity is that we believe that God created the Earth, then came down to Earth in the form of Jesus through Mary. Hence, ‘Father’ & ‘Son‘. Also, the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus, which is present in Holy Communion & other Sacraments. The Pope just serves as an example to all Catholics, makes decisions and stuff. God looks upon him no differently than He does on any other human being. The Holy Water is blessed, in fact, I thought many Protestants believe that, but oh well, I could be wrong. About the Saints -- Say your mother is sick, wouldn’t you ask me to pray for her? Now I ask you, how much closer do you think the Saints are to God than you are? They are way more holy than anybody on this earth, other than the people who are going to be Saints when they die. God bless.

Gracie,
I see what you are trying to say, but I just want to get the word out to try to conver some people who are on the line, but have many misconceptions. I appriciate your answer, and what I was trying to say in the P.S. about athiests is that I already know what they believe, don't agree with it, and really just don't wanna hear it. Just cuz it's stupid. Thanks for your answer.

JESUS PUT PETER IN CHARGE OF HIS CATHOLIC CHURCH. THAT'S WHERE THE IDEA OF THE POPE COMES FROM!

The thing about the Sabbath is that God rested on the 7th day and We worship him. That goes back to Moses' day. It basically is tradition, but we do hold services (that don't count for the Sabbath) daily. We even have a Saturday Mass that counts as the Sabbath.

All Catholic belief is derived from the Bible. Just because we look to other writings as well does not, by any means, deny the importance of the Bible at all. WHERE in the Catholic Teaching does it state that the Virgin Mary is a Co-Redeemer? It DOESN’T! That’s the reason I asked this question though, so let me inform you. We pray “through” or “with” Mary TO God, NOT directly to Mary. It would be like if I asked you to pray for my sick friend, wouldn’t you? Well so would Mary, and she was sinless. If she wasn’t pure, then God would NOT have entered the world in the form of Jesus Christ through Her. Mary was more of a servant to God than anyone, and that is why she was chosen to give birth to our Lord. We fast to show restraint and unselfishness towards God. About the “forbidding to marry” part -- Priests dedicate their whole life to the Church as a married man commits himself to his bride. That’s why Priests are not allowed to get married.

The only reason that the Catholic church is targeted by the Media is that, in a general sense of the public, we are the strongest, most united Church in the world. Also, because America was founded by PURITANS!!! Generally, the media in America just doesn’t like Catholics. I don’t know why. As for Confession, we all have the option to go face-to-face with the priest. That’s how I got my first Penance! Confession is a Sacrament. The priest is actually just an instrument God uses to FORGIVE you of your sins. To Purify you!

ARCHBISHOP FULTON SHEEN:

"There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church—which is, of course, quite a different thing. These millions can hardly be blamed for hating Catholics because Catholics “adore statues;” because they “put the Blessed Mother on the same level with God;” because they “say indulgence is a permission to commit sin;” because the Pope “is a Fascist;” because the Church “is the defender of Capitalism.” If the Church taught or believed any one of these things, it should be hated, but the fact is that the Church does not believe nor teach any one of them. It follows then that the hatred of the millions is directed against error and not against truth. As a matter of fact, if we Catholics believed all of the untruths and lies which were said against the Church, we probably would hate the Church a thousand times more than they do.

Pastor Billy say: Protestantism doesn't exist without attacking Catholicism or what is made up as Catholicism. Just read several of the early Protestant confessions and you'll discover just propaganda such as.. the pope is the Antichrist or the Roman Catholic Church is Babylon.

John Henry Newman wrote. " to be a student of history, one ceases to be a Protestant" Newman was a convert to Catholicism from the Church of England at a time when it was extremely unpopular. He was working on tracing the routes of his church back to the Apostles discovering no other possible way but Catholicism being the faith of all first Christians in unity with the first bishops and apostles and of course Christ.

Edge above is arguing certain doctrine and practise as not being biblical two things I'd like to mention,

1. since when was the Christian bible made a catechism?
2. where does the presupposition of all doctrine and practise being from the bible first come into existence?

What this person and other Protestants don't realise is they in fact are rarely arguing against what is in the bible and what is not but are arguing biblical interpretive tradition with Catholics as the majority of Catholic belief is supported by the bible, including purgatory (the entire NT), forgiveness of sins (John 20:20-22) by the Church, etc etc...

Well, I think this is what is to be expected after nearly 2000 years of a formalized religion and another nearly 6000 years of organized monotheism which more or less shares in the Abrahimic traditions. This is to say nothing of the proto-monotheism (Zoroastrianism) of earlier eras.

We live at one end of a continuum.

The embellishments and accretions schisms and ecumenica of 2000 years of a continuous line of leaders is bound to have it's issues.

Like any house, it may have started a simple, minimalist structure, but as the family grew, rooms were added, times were tough and not all the same materials were used, times were good, embelishments were added, then rooms were added, and then galleries, doors and tapestries to keep the draft out of the northern rooms, a painting for the artist lovers among us adorning some of the rooms, and comfort the family within in times of need, ramparts and fortifications added to keep the family save from without.

Over time, changing ideas , and innovations in technology caused friction between the more dogmatic members of the family, caused some family members to fall out with the original house and start their new , minimalist church across the way. Wash, Rinse, Repeat, add a few candles, the occasional crucifix and you have a good approximation of the story of Christiandom over the last 2000 years.

Ok things the Catholic church believes in that I disagree with. The following is a long list. Took me a while to write it. I look forward to hearing from you on them. If you want e-mail me through yahoo or answer here.

1) Mary - this has several parts listed below
- supposedly sinless - all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Doesn't say all but Mary.
- assumption - not supported Biblically. I have less trouble with this because I consider it unimportant but still believe it is false
- perpetual virginity - she had other children. They are mentioned in the Bible. I know you think they were Joseph's. That is not said anywhere.
- co-mediatrix or co-redemptrix - only one mediator between God and man. A hint, it is Jesus

2) Pope - once again several issues
- infallibility - this doctrine is based on one verse where Peter declared Jesus to be the Christ. I know infallibility applies only when the pope is speaking ex cathedra. However the fact that at least one pope, honorius I believe, has been declared a heretic kind of casts doubt on this.
- unbroken line of popes back to Peter - there is no unbroken line. First Peter was never called a pope. The term was not even used until the 3rd of 4th century (don't feel like lookig it up right now). Also I really doubt the idea that Jesus intended there to be a pope.

3) Confession
- no where in the Bible are we told to confess our sins to man. In fact when Jesus taught the apostles to pray part of the prayer was asking God to forgive our sins
- auricular confession was not mandated until 1215 AD. Thus it is not a tradition that dates back to the apostles
- Jesus is the mediator. We can go directly to Him with no middle man. Why do you think the veil of the temple was rent in two?

4) Faith or works
- Quite simply it is faith that saves us and keeps us saved. Nothing more is needed. Yes we will have works if we have faith but the works play no role in being saved or remaining saved

5) Saints
- The Bible refers to all believers as saints. The Catholic idea of saints is man made.
- Worship of saints - I know you are going to say you do not worship them. However if you went into a pagan temple and someone was praying to a statue what would you say they were doing? If it walks like a duck, looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck then it is a duck.

6) Purgatory
- This is found nowhere in scripture. We are told it is appointed unto man once to die and then the judgment. Not Once to die some time in purgatory and then the judgment.

7) Tradition
- You esteem tradition equal with the Bible. You claim these traditions are from the apostles. Which traditions? I have already established auricular confession is not as it was not mandated until 1215 AD.
- Which traditions are from the apostles and which are man made? Does anyone know? If not then all the traditions are corrupt.

8) The one true church
- This one really makes my blood boil. The one true church is all believers. Not a denomination and yes the RCC is a denomination.
- I often see Catholics say either the RCC is the one true church that hell will not prevail against or Jesus lied. You make it so even speaking against you at all is equivalent to calling Jesus a liar.
- I do not believe Peter is the rock the church was built upon. To see who I believe the rock is read 1 Corinthians 10:4. Just in case you don't want to read it the answer is Jesus.

9) Ability to forgive sins
- a whole dogma is built from one verse ignoring the rest of the Bible. You read it to say the apostles were given the authority to forgive sin. I think is says they should treat as forgiven the sins of those who come to Christ. And sins retained those who do not.
- no where in the Bible did an apostle forgive a sin. If it was so important wouldn't it be in there? Look at Simon the sorcerer. When he tried to buy the ability to give people the baptism of the holy spirit Peter rebuked him and told him to pray to God that he could be forgiven. Not that he should ask Peter to forgive him.

10) The Bible
- you claim you gave it to us. Technically true. However in reality God gave it to us. He merely used the Catholic church to do it.
- I know you do not believe in Sola Scriptura. However I have to think anything God truly wanted us to know is preserved in it. While you may miss out on tradition by using the Bible alone you can still know all you need to be saved. The problem with tradition is it can change so easily. The Bible can be compared to texts existing from the first century.
- Catholics did not write the Bible. Jewish men did for the most part with the possible exception Luke who is thought to be a gentile.

Hate is a strong word. However my disagreement with the Catholic Church is the blatant counter it has to the Bible. The impotance that is placed upon Mary who in truth was the mother of God, but she like the rest in the upper room had to experience pentecost and be filled with the Holy Ghost. In other words she is not a co-redeemer.

Also the Apostle Paul spoke harshly regarding those that prohibited men to marry. "Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth." (1 Timothy 4:3) I see that in the Catholic church with their clergy. And I am not sure if that leads to the pedophilia that is so rampant there. Don't get me wrong I have seen perversion in all areas of Christianity but highly publicized here.

Why do Catholics go into a booth where not even the priest even knows who he's speaking with and confess their sins? Repentance is more than just confessing your wrong doing; especially in hiding. When a person truly repents, they have turned away from that wrong doing and are not ashamed to admit that they were ONCE in darkness but now in the light of Christ Jesus and have changed.

Dear One, people usually hate what they don't understand. Don't waste your time getting angry, that's not Jesus' way. Just do what Jesus did, He explained and taught. Time and time again, he sat with the people and taught them the Truth. Be more concerned about spreading the Good News! that's what Jesus commissioned us to do. All 'churches' have lies told about them. Christians have terrible things said about them - and they're not true. But we have to listen to it or read about it. You can't defend the Church - that's Jesus' job! Just 'love as He has loved you'.... that's what He's asked of you. Do you hear what He's saying? He wants 'love' in your heart........ love. And your last statement, give it a second thought, my friend. Jesus always gives a damn. Always. Look to the Cross.
.............Give it some thought.

I like the PS.

I acctualy View Catholicism as the religion that should be the best friend of Asatru. We worship differently and to different Gods (I say pluarl for my faith not yours) but we hold a lot of the same values.

Atleast when John paul was running things.

I dont like the new guy.

Edit- I would like to point out.... THE CATHOLICS FOLLOW THE VERY EXAMPLE OF JESUS CHRIST WHEN HE WAS WALKING THE EARTH AS A MAN AS BEST THAT THEY CAN.

They are doing things the way Jesus himself told them to.

not to mention the fact that they wrote the bible....

Frith and strength to all-

It could be that the Catholic put so many people to death in the Dark Ages. Or could it be that tried to keep the bible from being translated in to the common tongue.

One of my biggest problems with the Catholic church is its position with the Sabbath. They seem to have coined the term "Christian Sabbath" to be Sunday. That, as you may very well know, is unbiblical. It is based solely on tradition.

I know that there is VERY much to be said about this topic. I have looked at many, if not all, the scriptures that Catholics AND Protestants use in defence of Sunday being a holy day.
