I use them to put other drinks in. I just recycle them basically. And it safe to do that after using them each time. My husband doesnt believe in using them. What do you think?

I reuse the smaller bottles that are about 16 oz several times for drinking tap water or another beverage so that I can take it wherever I'm going, sometimes water for my dog. Also I have used the smaller bottles as measuring cups and for storing stuff in and as an icepack for my cooler. I reuse the larger bottles for mixing kool-aid type drinks in, watering houseplants (my watering can) and adding water to my fish tank.

Not sure about using them for a long time. For awhile it's fine. I really like my Nalgene water bottle. It's basically indestructible.
You can also make a fun toy out of old water bottles. Fill an old water bottle with birdseed or another grain then add paper clips and beads etc. On a small piece of paper write what you put in the bottle. Punch a hole in the tag and tie it on with pretty ribbon. Oh yeah, leave a little bit of room so you can squeeze the bottle. To play you see if you can find all the small objects. Great for in the car. Be sure the lid is on really tightly, or you'll have a big mess.

Like Lucy, I use my bottles for a variety of things! Anything from poking holes in the lid to make a water sprinkler for the plants to refilling for that necessary 64 oz a day to making suntea on the patio! After they've reached their limit, I put them out on the curb (currently living in Romania & some of the poorer people pick them up to take them to a place where they get a little money for them & eventually they get recycled).

Check the bottom of the container. There will be a triangle with a number in it. 1 and 2 are safe to reuse, a few times anyway. Higher numbers I would only reuse once. Keep all of them out of the sunlight.
I reuse them to put well or spring water in at home because I can't stand the treated water in town where I work.
I am using one to hold massage oil at room temperature while I keep the gallon jug of oil in the fridge so it won't get rancid before I use it all.

Hi there,

I refill mine a few times but after a week's worth of refilling I feel that I've gotten about as much use as I can out of it. I'm pretty big on sanitation and the darned things don't tend to weather the dishwasher very well. :-(

After I'm done with the bottles I send them off to the recycling center where they end up getting sold to companies who clean and refine them into plastic chips. Eventually my plastic bottles end up as plastic lumber for fences, decks, and picnic tables. Sometimes our bottles end up as brand new carpet, did you know it takes 32-two liter bottles to produce a single square inch of carpet?

Happy recycling!

Ive washed and refilled the same water and soda bottles for years. I also reuse glass pickle jars for cold water from the fridge.

Yes I reuse my powerade bottles. I wash mine in hot soapy water with a few drops of bleach. Rinse well.

I refill it from my tap filter and use it again several times. I think we all should reuse, and then recycle to help mother earth and ourselves too.
